Chapter 308
Chapter 308
“What’s got them all worked up?” Kayla asked in surprise.
“Looks like Daniel’s wife is in some trouble,” Tuff said casually, sipping his coffee as he leaned against the floor–to–ceiling window.
He just loved watching those classic “husband–chasing hell” dramas unfold!
“You’re actually happy about someone else’s wife being in trouble?” Kayla snapped, kicking at him in annoyance.
Tuff shot her a mischievous wink, catching her leg between his own with a quick move.
“Honey, pretty snug, huh?” he teased.
“You–shameless! Let go!” Kayla snapped.
Her face flushed bright red.
Tuff released her leg, grinning. “So, Honey, what do you want with Daniel?”
“It’s about Landon,” Kayla said, getting back to business. “He met with Amy…”
“Pfft!” Tuff spat out his coffee.
Kayla shot him a deadly glare, wrinkling her brow in disgust. “Ugh, you got it all over me!”
“Sorry, sorry…” Tuff blurted, scrambling for a wet wipe.
He hurried to wipe her face clean.
Aiden watched the two of them flirting and bickering, and he couldn’t help but feel a wave of envy.
“Honey, you still haven’t said when Amy went to Dreicean,” Tuff said, trying to steer the conversation back on track.
“She got there today. She’s already met with Landon,” Kayla replied.
“Amy’s got some serious guts!” Tuff exclaimed.
He smacked his lips in disbelief.
‘She just got kidnapped a few days ago, and now she’s already throwing herself back into the lion’s den. Does she have nerves of steel or
what?
‘Too bad she’s the fragile type–not exactly someone who can handle herself in a fight,‘ Tuff thought.
“She’s with Night Owl and a few others. She’s safe for now,” Kayla said.
“So, do we need to go over there and help?” Tuff let out a long breath.
“No. We don’t want to make the Montgomery family suspicious,” Kayla replied. “I’ve been making hospital runs these days–I’ll jus
everyone Amy’s been sick from the shock.”
“I can head back to Dreicean,” Aiden suggested in a low voice.
“Aiden, you just want to see Night Owl, huh?” Kayla grinned, teasing.

“No!” Aiden shot back, shaking his head. “My home’s over there, so it totally makes sense for me to go back. Honestly, staying here any longer would just be weird.”
“When someone wants to leave, they’ll always find a hundred excuses,” Tuff waved his hand. “Permission granted!”
Aiden lit up and immediately started booking his flight.
Kayla, still uneasy about Daniel, gave him a call. “Do you need any help?”
“No, I can handle it. Just keep an eye on Amy for now,” Daniel replied, his voice tight as the wind whipped past him.
He gripped the motorcycle handlebars with both hands. As soon as the Bluetooth call ended, he single–mindedly twisted the throttle, speeding up.
Edith was right there in Pinecrest–and she was pregnant!
‘Holy crap, I’m going to be a dad!‘ Daniel thought, his mind reeling.
Maisie was right behind him in her car, but once she realized she couldn’t catch up, she gave up.
She slowed down and called Joanna. “Mom, Edith’s in the hospital. Can you go check on her?”
“Edith?” Joanna was stunned. “What happened to her?”
“I’m not sure. They just said she fell,” Maisie replied.
“What? How could a pregnant woman fall?” Joanna exclaimed.
“So, Mom, can you go check on her? If it feels awkward, just take a discreet look,” Maisie suggested.
“Alright,” Joanna nodded.
She agreed right away, without a moment’s hesitation.
Maisie couldn’t help but feel a little sad.
‘See? In Mom’s heart, Edith is more like her real daughter. The moment something happens to Edith, she doesn’t even care if she gets found out!‘ Maisie complained inwardly.
‘Good thing Mom’s still in Pinecrest.
‘Hope Edith and her baby are both fine. If anything happens, Daniel’s going to be heartbroken,‘ she thought.
At the Pinecrest Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Edith lay in bed, gazing gratefully at the boy who’d brought her in.
“Thank you for getting me to the hospital,” she said sincerely to the boy.
“Don’t mention it. Your family should be here any minute now,” the boy replied.
Edith froze, her face paling. “W–who did you call?”
“The first family member listed in your phone,” the boy said.
“What?” Edith blurted.

She was completely stunned.
“Wait, my first emergency contact is Daniell
‘Oh no, how could he be the one to be called?‘ Edith thought, her heart racing.
“What…what exactly did you tell him?” she stammered.
“I told him you fell, and that it’s really dangerous for a pregnant woman to have low blood sugar,” the boy replied.
Hearing this, Edith felt completely
‘Crap, now Daniel’s going to know Ir
with his baby!‘ she panicked.
Luckily, Daniel was all the way in Lunova–even with a private jet, it’d take him six or seven hours to get to Pinecrest.
‘There’s still time for me to make a run for it!‘ Edith thought, her heart pounding.
“Hey, thank you so much. What’s your name?” Edith asked as she started to get up.
“Lennon,” the boy said.
‘Lennon? That’s a pretty special name.
‘Did his parents maybe fancy some big celebrity or something?‘ Edith thought.
‘When my baby’s born, maybe I’d name it Luckystar–may everything go their way,‘ she figured.
“Lennon, here’s some cash for the cab and the hospital bill. Seriously, thank you so much for today,” Edith said, pulling out five hundred
dollars for Lennon.
But Lennon just waved it off, shaking his head.
“It really didn’t cost that much, and honestly, I never thought about money when I helped you,” he replied.
“Pfft, you’re way too nice! But if you keep helping people for free, your wallet’s gonna be crying. Come on, just take it!” Edith insisted.
“My master told me to do some good and earn some merit! Since you’re alright now, I’ll get going,” Lennon said, giving her a casual wave.
He waved goodbye and left without looking back.
“What an honest kid,” Edith shook her head with a smile.
Then she went to handle her discharge.
But as soon as she got out of bed, she felt dizzy and had to grab onto the bedside table for support.
“Miss Meyers, you can’t get out of bed,” the nurse said as she came in to hang an IV. “Your blood sugar is way too low–it’s really dangerous.”
“Oh, I guess I just haven’t had much of an appetite these past couple of days,” Edith said. “Is there some kind of super–fas give me?”
ent IV you can
“Nope,” the nurse replied, rolling her eyes.
“Your body needs time to recover–there’s no magic drip for that. Lie down, now,” the nurse said.

Edith glanced at the IV bag. Looks like it’ll take about three hours for this drip to finish up, she thought
“Well, whatever. I’ve still got six hours plenty of time to get out of here after the IV’s done, she told herself.
“With your condition, you really should be on bed rest as much as possible while you’re pregnant. No more running around the masa sed
sternly.
“But nurse, it’s just low blood sugar. It’s not that serious, right?” Edith asked, trying to sound casual.
“Just low blood sugar? You seriously don’t know you have a uterine defect?” The nurse stared at her in disbelief
“W–what kind of defect?” Edith froze, instinctively reaching for her belly.
“Didn’t you ever get a prenatal checkup?” the nurse asked, frowning.
“No…” Edith mumbled, her voice barely above a whisper, anxiety twisting in her gut.
“You have a little fibroid in your uterus. It won’t affect the baby’s growth, but it does put you at risk for miscarriage…” the nurse explained.
But Edith didn’t catch another word the nurse said. Her ears buzzed, and her heart was stuck in her throat.
‘A fibroid? I could lose the baby? Why is this happening to me?‘ she thought, panic flooding her mind.
She’d already lost love–this baby was all she had left. Losing this baby was simply not an option.
“Please, you have to help me…” Edith begged, her voice shaking with desperation.
“Whoa, don’t get so worked up. I’m already helping you, aren’t I?” the nurse said, trying to calm her down.
“Fine, fine, I won’t freak out,” Edith replied.
She forced herself to steady her breathing, telling herself to chill out and not lose it.
“Honestly, this kind of thing pops up every now and then. Just focus on resting and keeping the baby safe. When it’s time to deliver, we’ll take out the fibroid, too–piece of cake,” the nurse said, trying to reassure her.
“Is it really that simple?” Edith asked, her voice trembling.
“Yeah, but your blood sugar’s way too low. If you take another tumble…” the nurse warned.
“I swear I won’t fall again!” Edith promised, practically vowing on the spot.
“You young people always make it sound so simple. Trust me, when you get dizzy, it’s not like you can just tough it out,” the nurse couldn’t help but laugh.
“I–I’ll try to eat more…” Edith mumbled, a little embarrassed.
“Your early pregnancy symptoms are pretty intense. It’s better if you stay in the hospital for observation,” the nurse sugge
Edith wanted to stay for the baby’s health, but what if Daniel came looking for her?
