Teresa couldn’t make out the rest of Miriam’s words because of the noise outside the car window.
She only heard Miriam say, “So, Teresa, be careful. Don’t let Irene push you around.”
“Alright, I see,” replied Teresa. Even though she didn’t catch what Miriam had said before, Teresa knew Miriam cared about her.
After hanging up, Teresa soon arrived at the airport.
Jonathan made another call and then told Teresa, “Gary is in Jarisburg. He’ll pick you up and take you to the postpartum care center.”
Of all his cousins, Jonathan trusted Gary the most right now. No one was as capable or as calm under pressure as Gary.
Before long, Benny showed up to see Teresa off as well.
“Bunny, how did you get here?” Michael asked in a sweet voice and tilted his head.
“I came here on my kick scooter,” Benny teased Michael.
“Bunny, how about we have a race someday and see who’s the real scooter champion?” Michael asked.
“Sounds great. When I go to Jarisburg to visit you, we’ll have our race, okay?” Benny replied. He ruffled Michael’s hair affectionately.

Jonathan bent down, held Michael up, and told the bodyguard to take Michael ahead to board the plane. He still had some words to talk over with Teresa
and Benny.
Michael hugged Jonathan’s leg tightly and rubbed against it, unwilling to go.
Jonathan crouched down and whispered something to Michael until the little guy finally cheered up and went to board the plane.
Once Michael left, Benny turned to Teresa and said, “Jennifer’s case is scheduled for early December. It’s coming up in less than two weeks. Just wait for
- it.
“She’ll have to stay in custody until the trial. Once she’s sentenced, everything will be settled. She will probably be in jail for about six months.”
Teresa listened quietly and frowned. She thought, ‘Six months. By the time Jennifer gets out of prison, the baby will have already been born!‘
Jonathan placed a reassuring hand on Teresa’s shoulder and said, “I’ll have everything handled here. You don’t need to worry about anything. Just take good care of yourself, and if anything happens, give me a call.”
“I know.” Teresa nodded.
But Jonathan was still worried about Teresa, so he reminded her over and over.
Ever since he was investigated by the Department of Justice, Jonathan had been constantly on edge. Even though Teresa was fine, Jonathan never told her that he kept having nightmares and dreaming about something bad happening to her and the baby.
“Call me as soon as you get to Jarisburg. If anything comes up, just let me know,” Jonathan said.
After saying that, Jonathan hugged Teresa. With one of his big hands cradling the back of her head and the other gripping her shoulder, he held her in a way that felt like he was shielding her from the world.
Teresa didn’t push him away. At that moment, she really didn’t want to leave. She couldn’t read her mind now. She felt this might be the last time she would ever see Jonathan, and she was just as anxious as him.
“Oh, come on,” Benny said with a helpless grin. “You’re unbelievable. You’ll see each other again.”

Jonathan didn’t respond to Benny.
“That’s enough. The plane is about to take off,” Benny reminded them kindly.
Only then did Jonathan slowly let go of Teresa. However, he couldn’t rest assured. He turned to Benny and said, “Get me a plane ticket. I’m going with them, too.”
“Jonathan, you have to swing by the Department of Justice’s office later. That case with Spencer needs you to show up,” Benny reminded in
“That can wait. I’ll handle it when I’m back,” Jonathan replied.
Just as Jonathan was about to get a ticket and leave with Teresa, a figure suddenly darted over. The person brushed past Jonathan and seized Teresa’s wrist to stop her from leaving.
