That’s a first.
Twatched with interest as Katherine and Gala stood face to face. For some reason, I wanted to see what Katherine would shift into but Aquamarine started wriggling against me,
“It’s either you stop them or I’ll march up to Gaia myself,” she threatened in a slightly shaky voice.
My lips curved into a smirk as raised an eyebrow, impressed by her boldness. For a minute, I considered it.
This version of Aquamarine versus Gaia.
It reminded me of the day she made even the strongest of my men bow at her feet when they almost killed Katherine.
But I’d be damned if I let both of them fight.
“Nothing must happen to my Kath, Alexander,” she called my name like a silent warning and she shot me a look.
She looked…. Hot.
A smirk formed on my lips and I turned to Gaia. “Anyone who throws the first hit will answer to me,” I declared.
That was all it took for Kath and Gaia to look at me. Kath’s fangs and claws slowly retracted while Gaia’s feet were back on the ground.
I glared at Gaia. “You’re not supposed to remove the bracelet, Gaia. You know the rules.”
Gaia’s eyes narrowed, “But this pig insulted my name and my crown
I raised my hand to silence her. “It’s either you wear the bracelet or my men will drag you out.”
Gaia scoffed and glared at Katherine, then at the short girl whose body was heating up against mine.
Gala knew better than to push me further. She turned and stalked off, her shoulder bumping into Katherine in the process.
I looked down at Aquamarine, “You’re getting more feisty,” I said, my voice low and teasing.
Aquamarine’s eyes squinted slightly and her brow creased. I could tell that she was annoyed but I could see the tension in her body easing slightly “Maybe you should consider changing your mistress’s jewellery before she kills us all,” she mumbled
Treleased a low chuckle and turned to Levi whom I noticed was also watching the drama “Levi, escort the Luna to her room,” I said, my voice firm. I want to have a word with Kath”
Helt Aquamarine’s body tense against mine immediately. But I didn’t look at her, I knew what would come next
Within seconds, Aquamarine and Levi were already walking away from me. I didn’t bother to look at her even though I felt her glance back at me.

Chapter 33
Katherine opened her mouth to speak but I stopped her.
The confidence she had while preparing to fight Gaia was now gone and all that was left was a lady staring down at her feet with her hands trembling slightly by her sides.
Just like Aquamarine, the only difference is that Aquamarine doesn’t shake after she defends herself.
“What’s Aquamarine’s true story?” I asked. There was no point in beating around the bush. “What was she like growing
up?”
Katherine immediately looked up at me with wide eyes and blinked before she started talking. “Aquamarine had a terrible childhood,” she replied. “Her father was an abusive monster. Even the pack members joined hands in torturing her. They all called her The Cursed One‘ because of her appearance.”
I nodded in agreement. Remembering the state t met her in, but I needed more information. “Do you think there is a reason she looks like that?” I asked. “Any unusual thing about her? Anything that stands out.”
Katherine shook her head, “Aside from her unusual look, there isn’t anything.”
No, there has to be something.
“She told me about her promise to give you an heir and to prove her worth,” Katherine said and paused.
“And?”
“Please don’t be too hard on her. I know she’s a bit clumsy. But she’s independent and reliable.” She spoke too low that I
could barely hear her.
I released a deep breath. I already know all of these.
This isn’t what I wanted to hear. I wanted to know things about her that nobody knows. Her secrets, powers, or something
that would hint at her being a spy.
I looked at Katherine, my eyes searching for more information. But just as I was about to speak, she motioned to my arm.
“That pendant… is one of the weird things about her,” she said.
The moon pendant with a flame on it.
One of the items we found in the Moonstone pack that caught my attention for a reason unknown to me. I had forgotten! had it wrapped around my wrist for days.
“This?” I asked with raised brows. “What do you know about it?”
“Aquamarine’s pendant?” she asked.
Aquamarine’s?
Her voice went low, as if remembering something that should be long forgotten. “She was born with it around her neck, it almost killed her. After her mother died during childbirth, my mother kept it hidden,” she said.

“Why?” I asked.

“Her appearance alone made her father abandon her and her dead mother on the field to rot for days after childbirth. If he knew he would have killed her with his hand.” Katherine’s voice strained as she clenched her fists and released a breath. “I never got the chance to tell her about it or give it to her because she might…… feel guilty and blame her existence for her mother’s death all over again.”
This information only raised more questions than answers.
“But she knows about the similar birthmark,” Katherine said, bringing me out of my thoughts.
I stared at her confused, yet intrigued.
“Don’t tell me you haven’t seen her birthmark,” she asked, somewhat surprised before her face slowly began to turn red.
“Haven’t you guys been… you know. Having-“.
I cut her off. “You can go back to your chambers, but stay away from Gaia.”
After our discussion, both of us went our separate ways. I walked back into the castle.
Katherine’s story was still echoing in my ears.
Born with a pendant and a similar birthmark? This is more twisted than I thought. Now this is what I’ve been wanting to hear. Not exactly this but this could work.
I just hoped it would be connected to the Book of Ashes and also the scroll.
When I reached the corridor to my chamber, I saw someone walking away from the door.
Esmeralda.
But she didn’t notice I was there. I watched as she walked in the other direction without looking back.
She must have thought I was inside. I don’t know how many times I need to warn her about coming to my chambers for something soo minimal.
When I got to the door, I pushed it open and stepped inside. My eyes searched for a familiar figure until they eventually landed on Aquamarine.
She was walking back and forth. Her fingers on her lips as she bit her nails, a habit I’d noticed a million times since I met
her.
As if sensing my presence, she stopped and turned to lace me.
She had that desperate look on her face as she rushed towards me, her lips parting as if to speak.
But before she could utter a word, I cut her off “Strip.”
