Chapter 37
PRIMUS ALEXANDER’S POV
“She can’t shift,” Levi whispered.
“You noticed?” I asked, but it was more of a rhetorical question.
“It’s either that or she didn’t see the need to,” he finished.
But she already confirmed that she couldn’t. A Luna that can’t shift.
I stroked my chin, both in disappointment and in frustration.

It seemed almost soo good to be true. All these decades of punishment, just for me to find my mate who would bear me
an heir, a mate to break the curse.
Someone who touched the Book of Ashes and even did more than that.
Just to find out that she can’t shift.
The Goddess is indeed cruel.
“I hope you don’t plan on rejecting her because of it,” Levi said.
had hoped she would be more than a breeder,” I said honestly, my voice low.
Levi’s eyes went wide and he began to speak, “Do you-‘
But I interrupted him, “Burn them,” I ordered, returning my sword into its sheath. “Make sure only the ashes are left.” I knew the nonsense he was going to say but I’d rather get my hands soaked in blood than to hear it.
15 dead bodies lined up in front of me.
It’s a shame that they had to witness what happened but under no circumstances will my enemies find out that my Luna
can’t shift.
I left the pack borders and headed to my study. I packed a few essential scrolls and books into my bag before heading out.
I walked back into the room, the sack of scrolls and books slung over my shoulder. Aquamarine stood up, with her scroll in her hands and looked up at me, her eyes widening as she took in the sight of my bloody arm and bandaged hand.
I dropped the sack on the floor. “Follow me,” I said.
Aquamarine followed and when we got into the bathroom, I sat down on the stool. I stretched out my bloody arm and waited for her to catch on.
It almost took her a minute, but eventually she realized what I wanted. She took out a loofah and soap and began to wash my arm, gently.
I watched her. My gaze drawn to the way her hair fell in loose waves down her back. She was so focused on cleaning my

arm that she didn’t even notice that I was staring at her.
Or did she?
As she worked, I asked her the question that had been on my mind since earlier. “Does anyone else know you can’t shift?”
She looked up at me, her eyes meeting mine for a brief moment before she looked back down at my arm. “Only Katherine,” she replied.
I nodded. After she finished washing and drying my arm, we went back into the main room.
I sat down on the floor, gesturing to her to join me. She looked shocked but did as I ordered. Together we started looking
into the symbols on the scroll.
Why was I helping her with it? I had no idea either.
“You should have also snuck in to learn this,” I grumbled, trying to keep my patience. “Instead of only going to hear half-
baked stories.”
“Are you having a hard time teaching me?” She murmured.
I raised an eyebrow. That wasn’t the response or tone I was expecting. “Only because you’re having a hard time understanding,” I replied.
“I’m sorry,” she muttered, but she still didn’t look up at me. She just continued comparing the scrolls and biting her lips.
I ignored it as I explained the content of some scroll written in the ancient tongue.
When food came we ate. But in silence, still no word from Aquamarine. After that we went back to work.
At first, I thought she was just being stubborn and angry that I lashed out at her. But as the hours passed, I started to
realize that something was off.
Very wrong, aside from her random apology and her sulked mood, she wasn’t her usual self.
I began to notice that Aquamarine was struggling to keep up. She would stare at the scrolls for long periods of time. Her brow creased and her eyes squinted but she wouldn’t say anything.
And now, she seemed to be blinking hard and biting her nails.
“Aquamarine, are you ok?” I asked.
“I don’t know what any of this says,” she said. Her voice was soo low, it sounded painful.
I looked at the book she held in her hands. It’s written in English.
Something echoed in my mind and I hoped it wasn’t what I was thinking.
I took out a book. The letters were bigger than the ones she held, maybe she couldn’t see clearly. “Look at this,” I showed it to her but she just stared at the paper with moist eyes.

“Aquamarine,” I called out gently and moved closer to her. “Can you read?”
She hesitated, looking down at her hands, “Can I leave?”
“No, answer me,” I insisted. “Can you read?” I asked again.
“N–no,” she stuttered.
“How the fuck is that possible? It was a basic skill, one that every child learned from a young age.”
“I’ve never got to learn. Nobody wanted me around. But whenever Katherine tried to… I don’t know, it just doesn’t make sense to me,” She said desperately, like she was trying to explain to save herself. “But now, the more you try to explain, the more confused I become. It’s like my brain just can’t process the information and it’s making me…… restless.”
I pointed out the symbols, explaining what each one meant. But as I spoke, I could see the pain and confusion in her eyes.
“Alexander,” she croaked.
Her expression made me pause.
I released a deep breath. “It’s fine.”
“No, it’s not. It’s embarrassing.” She shook her head aggressively. “I can’t shift, or fight or even read. What if there is an emergency and I need to read something or protect you?”
Protect me? I almost laughed at that. It was cute and funny at the same time. But there was something endearing about
her concern.
“Would Gaia have to do it instead?” Aquamarine asked, her voice laced with insecurity.
“You shouldn’t compare yourself to Gaia,” I replied. “Everyone has their flaws, Aqua.”
“Levi can’t read and Gaia is extremely forgetful. She can’t fight without her dark magic anymore,”
Aquamarine sighed and rubbed her eyes. “But they’re strong,” she countered
“And so are you,” I said firmly. “You’re just too blind to see it. I want that mentality out of your head. I don’t want my child to have the same, whether he’s a shifter or not and whether he can read or not.”
Aquamarine opened her mouth to speak then she closed it back. Then she finally spoke, but the words that came out of her mouth made me want to snap.
“I will cut off your tongue and arms before you try it. Why would you think dark magic would help you learn how to read or shift?” I sneered at her.
But Aquamarine’s eyes widened and she bit her lips. “What if there is another magic user in this pack that you don’t know of? Someone that heals and makes potions. Is Gaia the only reason why you hate dark magic?”
Again with Gaia. Is she blind to see that nothing is going on between Gaia and me? “No. She’s not the main reason.”
“Then what is?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

I grinned at her, a mischievous glint in my eye. “Come to bed, and I’ll tell you.”
Aquamarine scoffed, but I could see a faint cheer in her eye. It was good that she was already coming back to normal again.
“I hate you,” she muttered. Her smile was back again and her white eyes seemed to have that spark in them again.
“Come on, I know you’re very close to heat. Trust me, this is the best time for a child.” I nodded at her and raised an
eyebrow.

Aquamarine laughed warmly and her cheeks flushed bright red and she looked away from me. “What about your burnt
hand? You won’t be able to…you know.”
I smirked, “Then lead. I want you to ride me.”
Her face grew even redder, and she shook her head. “I can’t, I have a scroll to open in two days, remember?”
“Forget it and come here,” I smirked, moving towards her while she moved back.
“No, I have to do it. My life and-”
Before she could finish, I lifted her into my arms and carried her to the bed. I dumped her and she yelped in surprise and tried to stand up, but I pushed her back down and landed closely beside her.
I pulled her closer to me and buried my head in between her breasts. I inhaled her sweet scent as her calmness washed
over me.
“Let’s forget about the scroll for now. We’ll talk about it later.” I whispered and drifted off to sleep.
I woke up later that night, just to see Aquamarine leaving the room quietly. I watched her quietly, wondering what she was
up to.
Before I could do anything, she came back in and cuddled up to me again.
Her heart was racing at an unusual pace, then she released a low breath and nuzzled her nose in my neck and dozed off.
I pretended to be asleep. But what was she doing in the middle of night?
