Chapter 52
Chapter 52
PRIMUS ALEXANDER’S POV
It was 1 hour past noon before a movement caught my eye.
Aquamarine.
Again.
From the workshop to the far hallway.
Then back again.
At first, I thought she was just restless. Maybe trying to distract herself. Then Katherine joined her. They spoke for a while in front of my workshop till Katherine eventually left.
“She’s been… quiet lately,” I muttered, eyes locked on the stained–glass window. “More than usual.”
She wasn’t avoiding me, not exactly. But the shift was there.
“So you can notice something like that?” Levi asked, but I could hear the mockery underneath.
“How could not?” I replied. “She barely speaks to me unless I initiate it. Skipped breakfast. Lost in thought.”
She stopped asking questions. She stopped being interested in the things around her. Not even the things I knew got her excited anymore.
Aquamarine was changing and I didn’t like it.
But I couldn’t tell if it was because of me or because of something else.
Me. Did I scare her that much because of how I was in that room?
I moved away from the window side and sat on the rocking chair behind me. I had no idea which room we entered but I had to make sure I was close but still far from Aquamarine.
The perfect view of my workshop.
Levi’s brows drew together. “Do you think she regrets coming here? Is she still thinking about Gaia?”
“She wouldn’t say even if she did.”
She hadn’t said much since I showed her the Core Fang.
She had asked questions, yes. Stared too long at it, yes. But when I told her what it was, what it meant, she had just changed.
Something was wrong. And whatever it was, she was keeping it from me.
Then I exhaled, “Let’s continue with work. What’s the update on Vlad?”

Levi straightened, accepting the change of subject. “The vampire lord? You sure you don’t want me to handle it myself?” Levi asked but I shook my head.
“We helped him overtake two small kingdoms. He owes us. But I need to finalise the terms.”
“You think he’ll keep his word?”
“He’s ambitious. Not stupid. If he breaks it, he knows what happens.”
Still, as we talked, my eyes drifted through the window again. I caught sight of Aquamarine pacing near the workshop. She had something in her hand. Then she disappeared.
A few minutes later, Esmeralda appeared.
I leaned closer to the window.
They were smiling.
Just like yesterday.
Something tightened in my chest, but I forced myself still.
It wasn’t fear. Not exactly. More like… a gnawing confusion. They hadn’t been close before. Not that I knew of. But now
they looked comfortable. Too comfortable.
And Esmeralda?
She was the one who’d offered Aquamarine those fertility brews.
I frowned.
Aquamarine has been different lately. Hungrier. More sensitive. Quieter.
I thought it was the Core Fang and that room.
But what if it wasn’t just that?
I closed my eyes, trying to scan for the faintest trace of what I would know instantly.
Even when I touched her stomach, in the stillness of night, when her body curled into mine–there was nothing. But it’s still too early.
It’s not even a month yet that she has been here and a lot has happened to her already. But maybe she just needed more space and comfort.
Like last night, perhaps. But I’d do anything for her to get the peace she needs so she can get me what I want.
I cleared my throat and went back to work.
And yet, I couldn’t concentrate. That strange weight was back. A pressure in my spine. Like something was out of place.
“Let’s go,” I said, rising to my feet.

Levi trailed beside me as we walked through the quiet hallways, stone echoing beneath our boots. We passed a few guards
toward the Grand Hall.
“You look like you’re chewing stone, Primus,” a voice said beside me.
I didn’t turn. I didn’t have to. I knew the owner of that annoying voice ringing in my ear already.
Leonard.
The Leader of The Order.
I let out a slow breath. “What do you want?”
“A moment?”
I didn’t stop walking. “Walk and talk.”
Levi snorted under his breath, falling back a step as Leonard caught up beside me.
“It’s about your Luna.“.
That got my attention, he’s never the one to have conversations about anything only if it gets his full attention.
I finally looked at him.
Long grey dreads, grey eyes that seemed to have seen the beginning of the world to the last days and light patches on his brown skin..
In his usual white robes, hands folded calmly.
I hate to admit, he aged like fine wine.
“Tread carefully, Leo,” I said.
“Of course.” He inclined his head. “Has she said anything about her former pack then? Any mention that might interest us.”
“No,” I lied easily, “Nothing unusual. She keeps to herself.”
“We’re tracking several artifact movements. None of them, the scroll, showed signs of tampering and reacting,” he complained. “What about that other slav-”
“Katherine is Aquamarine’s sister,” I cut him off and stared at him flatly. “None of them has anything to do with the scroll. Focus on the remaining artefacts. But if you’re searching for sabotage, start somewhere else.”
He stared at me slightly in the same manner. “Understood. Any news on the Luna’s… condition?”
I frowned. “No.”
“As in, she’s not with pup yet?”
I turned my eyes away. “It’s too early. She hasn’t been here a month.”

“Only… there are rumours.”
I stood. “I don’t have time for rumours.”

“But perhaps you should make time,” he pressed. “I heard she made you almost kill the Queen of the Earth. And now, some are convinced she’s truly a spy and is controlling you.”
My brows went up and my eyes scanned him from head to toe in utmost disbelief. “Aquamarine, controlling me? Who said
that?”
He didn’t answer. Of course, he didn’t. They never did. The Elders thrived on shadows.
Aquamarine was not a threat. Not to me. Not to the pack. Not even to anyone. I would’ve felt it.
But I couldn’t deny that something was off.
When I entered our chambers last night, her body was soo tensed that I thought she had frozen to death. But then she
touched me.
For the first time, without me initiating it.
For the first time, a lady took charge like she owned me. And she didn’t even have the look of lust in her eyes. It felt……
different.
“You were absent from this pack for 3 months. Go back to your pets and let them fill you in on all that happened to your
Luna.”
“Then perhaps you shouldn’t have made her Luna too soon. Have you forgotten the main reason why she’s here? Why we….you need her?”
“Do you favour your head, Leo?” I asked, biting back the growl in my throat. I released a hot breath. I knew where he was heading, but no Luna of mine would serve only in bed..
“Her purpose still stands. But she’s my mate and our Luna,” I said, gritting my teeth.“And I decide what that means. Not you or The Order.”
“Very well.” Leonard gave a short bow. “But should something… unfortunate occur, it will not be only your power questioned. It will be your judgment.”
“She wouldn’t disappoint,” I said proudly. Aquamarine has proven herself in different ways she doesn’t even know yet. And she’s still learning. “The only unfortunate thing is if you go against my decisions. I believe you can see the….. latest updates.”
Still, as we walked toward the next corridor, something itched in my chest. That strange weight was back. A pressure in my spine. Like something was off–balance.
Other Elders joined, each one spitting things that I barely acknowledged.
Then we turned the corner.
And froze.

Just beyond the corner of the corridor, moving quickly but carefully. Her hair was loose, her steps were fast and in her arms was a heavy, uneven bundle wrapped in a familiar grey blanket.
But it wasn’t the blanket that made my blood still.
It was the faint red glow pulsing from between the folds. Barely visible. But there.
A few soft gasps sounded behind me.
Her arms tightened around it when she noticed us.
Then her eyes went wide the moment she noticed me. Like she didn’t expect me to be the one standing there.
And just behind her, a few paces back was Katherine.
She stopped as well, her gaze flicking from Aquamarine to the gathered Elders. To me.
There was absolute silence in the corridor. I didn’t speak.
My hands were clenched into fists. My wolf growled so low I felt it in my spine.
I just stood there. Staring at Aquamarine whose body was trembling.
