A doctorate in business under world–class mentors, countless awards in international music competitions, mastery of instruments—she seemed to shine in every arena. Tonight’s spectacle, this elaborate staging, was nothing but the foundation stone for her grand return, securing her place in the country’s cultural circles.
His voice rang with fervor: Summer was the best, Alan was lucky, and anyone could see it.
Alan smiled faintly, offering nothing more. But his steady demeanor soothed Chandler and Mrs. Zach. They exchanged knowing glances, pleased beneath their polite façades.
Chandler sighed, performing modest concern. “My daughter has always been free- spirited, even willful. After years abroad, she doesn’t know the nuances of our society anymore. I must trouble you, Alan, to guide her in the future.”
The words were crafted carefully. Beneath courtesy lay expectation—an alliance, stability, and the promise that Alan would carry Summer higher.
Alan inclined his head, tone warm. “That is only natural.”
The Zach couple masked their satisfaction with more ritual pleasantries, while Timothy, oblivious, basked in anticipation of Summer joining them in the box.
A knock at the door.
Nathan entered, bent close to Alan, and whispered.
Alan’s brow furrowed. He cast a glance toward the neighboring box, then straightened, expression smooth again.
He smiled to Chandler. “Timothy will keep you company for a while. Something requires my attention.”

The atmosphere in Jade’s box was heavy, bright lights searing against drawn curtains, four suited men standing like shadows near the door.
Alan stepped in, calm and smiling though the tension pressed like a blade. “Madam Jade, it’s been some time. I trust your health has held well?”
Jade reclined in her chair, gaze sharp. “Don’t call me that. My health was fine- until you walked in.”
Alan kept his smile, choosing a seat across from her. With Jade’s temper, courtesy would buy little, but standing to speak would mean yielding ground entirely.
His gaze flicked to Claudia at her aunt’s side. He softened, voice warm. “My wife.”
Claudia turned away, refusing him.
Jade slammed the table, voice cutting. “Let’s not waste words. That gown
-‘Moonrose‘–I want it back.”
Alan’s smile cooled. “Now, Madam Jade, isn’t that unreasonable? I paid for the couture. Who wears it is my decision.”
Jade’s laugh was harsh. “Spendid couture–designed with my own hands—and you think it’s just a gown? Do you take me for a seamstress anyone can throw money
at?”
Her words struck like a whip. “You want to borrow my name, Splendid’s weight, to gild your mistress and make her shine? Dream on. She, and the Zach family behind her, are unworthy.“.
The words rang sharp, scorn without restraint.
Alan’s smile thinned, voice dipping into steel. “Then forgive me my bluntness. If she is unworthy, I make her worthy. With me, with Moore family backing, who dares say she cannot wear it?”
His eyes darkened. “And if you seize back what was sold, then it is you, Madam Jade, who breaks trust.”

At the side, Claudia’s hand tightened on the armrest, unease rippling through her chest. She feared for her aunt’s health, feared the fury would strike her down. But Jade sat tall, pale yet steady, eyes like ice.
Her voice lashed the air. “Trust? Alan, shall I remind you what you promised when you commissioned that gown?”
She remembered well–how his people had approached, requesting a wedding couture, Jade’s personal involvement, and how her staff had asked directly: was it to be worn at a belated wedding ceremony with Claudia?
Now, the lie stood exposed.
