Michael rested his head on Jonathan’s shoulder as he said, “Dad, I thought you were really going abroad.”
Jonathan didn’t respond. He just looked thoughtfully at Teresa’s back ahead of them.
They hadn’t said a word to each other since Jonathan arrived.
When they reached the door, Lucas came over to greet them.
Fiona stared at Lucas, her face full of confusion. “Teresa, who is this?” she asked.
“This is my brother,” Teresa replied.
With Teresa’s introduction, Lucas smiled and greeted Fiona, “Hello, I’m Teresa’s brother. Just call me Lucas.”
Only then did Fiona realize that this man was Teresa’s own brother–and that the two of them looked remarkably alike.
“It’s cold out here. Come on in,” Lucas said, stepping aside so Fiona could go in first.
Jonathan waited until Fiona had entered, then carried Michael inside after them.
Lucas patted Jonathan’s shoulder and said, “Hey, Jonathan, you look a lot thinner.”
“Just tired,” Jonathan replied.
Lucas’s heart ached for him. In Lucas’s heart, Jonathan was his savior.
In the kitchen, Evelyn had already finished making the ravioli, and the food Jonathan had ordered had also arrived.
The driver brought in bags and boxes of gifts–just the organic superfoods alone were worth tens of thousands of dollars.
Teresa was busy pouring coffee. She said, “Fiona, please have a seat. I brewed some coffee for you, let me pour you a cup.”
Fiona replied, “Thank you. You should take a break and rest.”
“I’m not tired,” Teresa said.
“How can you not be tired? You just had a baby, you really need to follow strict postpartum recovery properly,” Fiona said.

“I’ve rested for a long time for recovery at the hospital, and I’m fully recovered now,” Teresa replied.
Fiona said, “But how many days can you really rest in the hospital? It’s getting cold, so don’t leave yourself with any lasting health issues.
“Why not let Jonathan bring you over to his place? It’d be so much better. His place is really comfortable, and the rooms are cozy and warm.”
“It’s pretty warm here too,” Teresa said as she was setting out the tableware.
Evelyn chimed in, “Yeah, we’re doing just fine here, you really don’t have to worry about us.”
Fiona fell silent. In front of Michael, there were some things she didn’t want to say out loud. She thought, ‘Well, I will wait after dinner!‘
Jonathan ended up being the one serving coffee and water. Lucas offered to help, but Jonathan waved him off.
Just then, Michael jumped in eagerly. He said, “Come on, Dad, eat up. Let me pour the coffee.”
He hugged the little coffee pot and waddled around on his short legs, pouring coffee for Fiona, Evelyn, and Lucas. When he got to Teresa and Jonathan, he said anxiously, “Mom, Mr. Lime, hurry up and drink so I can refill your cups.”
Fiona couldn’t help but laugh. She said, “Mike is just too adorable.”
After contentedly making the rounds and taking care of everyone, Michael soon grew tired and began to feel sleepy.
Teresa was about to carry Michael off to bed, but Jonathan scooped Michael up and carried him away first.
“I’ll put him to bed,” Jonathan said, carrying Michael into the room.
Only then did Teresa look up and watch his back as he walked away–there were words she had been holding back for a long time.
Fiona sighed and said, “Mike sticks to Jonathan. If two kids have to grow up without their dad around, how can they possibly be healthy and happy?”
Evelyn replied, “Come on, it’s the 21st century. There are plenty of kids out there growing up just fine without a dad, and they’re doing great.”
