Jonathan said through gritted teeth, “I don’t even know what you mean by that. You keep wishing me happiness, but I’ve been there for you and your family from the very beginning.
“When your mom was in the hospital, who was the one taking care of her? Why did I do all that? Why did I put up with your family’s attitude? What am I, some live–in son–in–law who has to keep tiptoeing around your mom?”
Teresa asked, “You’re about to leave. Why are you saying all this now? What are you trying to say?”
“You seriously don’t get what I mean? Are you really pretending you don’t understand?” Jonathan
shot back.
Teresa honestly didn’t get it. She thought, ‘It is understandable for Jonathan to feel wronged–he has done so much for my family, especially when Lucas was in the hospital. Jonathan had given more than anyone could have expected.
‘But now, since we’ve already decided to go our separate ways, he doesn’t owe us anything anymore. He can just walk away now. Maybe it’s time I let him go.‘
Jonathan still never got the answer he wanted. He snapped, “You still don’t get it? Fine. Listen to me- unless you come looking for me first, I swear I’ll never come back to you.”
With that, he hung up decisively, then handed the phone back to Benny.
Noticing that Jonathan looked pretty upset, Benny asked, “What’s up? What did you guys talk about?”
“Nothing left to say to her. I’m going to board now,” Jonathan said, his tone cold.
Benny wondered, ‘Did it go badly again?‘ He tried to smooth things. He said, “Are you going to leave? Why not wait a little longer? The kids are still so young. Are you just going to leave like this?
‘Teresa’s mom will get over it soon–she’s just angry right now.”
But Jonathan shook his head and said, “I won’t get in anyone’s way anymore. I’ve already hired six nannies–two for Mike, two for Felix, and two for her. That should be enough.”
Benny wondered, ‘By her, did he mean Teresa? He doesn’t even want to say her name now? Seriously,
what’s up with those two?‘
Jonathan was already at the gate, boarding pass in hand. Laden with regrets and that stubborn all–or- nothing resolve, he walked through the jetway and onto the plane. And just like that, Nareigh became a city he was leaving behind.

Chapter 1013
In the hospital, Teresa sat there, staring at her phone in a daze.

Half an hour ago, despite Evelyn’s objections, Teresa left the house anyway, claiming she was going to Miriam’s place.
Evelyn didn’t believe a word of it–she knew exactly who Teresa was going to see and scolded her harshly, calling her pathetic.
But Teresa insisted on going anyway.
Evelyn shook her head in exasperation. She said, “Go on, then. After everything that’s happened, you still want to see him? Go say your goodbyes. Maybe that’ll finally make you give up on him for good.”
Even with Evelyn’s words, Teresa still headed to the airport.
Benny had told Teresa he was too busy to see Jonathan off, so Teresa thought that Jonathan would
be feeling alone. That was why she made up her mind to go.
She thought, ‘Just to see him one last time, even if this is the end.‘
Unexpectedly, on her way there, Teresa got a call from Edward.
“Teresa, Miriam’s in the hospital. She has acute appendicitis. I’m not even in Nareigh right now–my company sent me on a business trip. Can you go check on her? I’m really worried about her,” Edward
said, his voice full of concern.
As soon as Teresa heard that Miriam was in the hospital with appendicitis, she immediately turned
the car around and rushed straight to the hospital.
When Teresa rushed to the hospital, Miriam was still in the middle of her appendectomy. Teresa kept glancing anxiously at the clock, but Miriam had only just been taken into surgery, and there was no telling when it would be over.
Teresa realized there was no way she’d make it to the airport now, so she ended up calling Benny.
What she didn’t expect was that Benny was already at the airport–and right there beside him was
Jonathan.
