Jade gave her a sharp look and sighed. “You’re clever enough. How did you end up marrying that man?”
Claudia: “…”
Jade still held a grudge against Alan. That shameless man had driven a wedge between aunt and niece for years.
She could never stomach him.
Though it wasn’t her place as an elder to meddle too deeply in the messy affairs of the younger generation, Jade couldn’t hold back. “Settle this divorce quickly. If you need my help, just say the word. For you, I’ll swallow my pride.”
Claudia hesitated.
She truly did need help.
She was determined to leave Alan, but he refused to talk, and without the right lawyer, she had no way to fight in court.
In Capital City, no prominent attorney dared take her case because of Alan’s influence.
She didn’t dare ask her lawyer friends either. After what happened with Gloria, involving them would only put them in danger.
The last few days she had been at her wit’s end.
And now her grandaunt had returned. Though they hadn’t seen each other in years, and Claudia wasn’t sure of her current circumstances, one thing was clear from Jade’s bearing–she feared nothing of the Moore family.
Should she ask for her help?

Claudia snapped out of her thoughts. Clenching her teeth, she finally decided. “Grandaunt, could you help me find a divorce lawyer?”
Jade was surprised. “You couldn’t find one?”
“It’s not that. But since this is a divorce from Alan, I don’t think an ordinary lawyer is enough. I wanted someone with a stronger reputation, more skill. But for me, that’s difficult to arrange…”
She gave a vague excuse.
She couldn’t tell Jade the truth–that Alan had pressured the entire legal circle into rejecting her. If Jade knew, she would storm the Moore family estate herself, and if Nancy found out about the divorce, everything would become even harder.
Claudia had to keep it from her mother–in–law until the papers were finalized. Once it was done, no one could undo it.
Thankfully, Jade didn’t probe further.
She knew how complicated high–society divorces could be. A good lawyer was essential—for assets, for custody, for everything.
“Fine. I have a professional legal team at the Splendid branch in Capital City. I’ll instruct them in the next few days. You can consult them on anything you need.”
She agreed without hesitation.
Claudia had expected maybe one renowned lawyer, but a whole team?
Her face lit up. She threw her arms around her grandaunt’s waist, rubbing against her playfully. “Thank you, Grandaunt!”
“Enough of that. Only sweet–tongued when you want something.”
Jade scolded lightly, but her wrinkled face broke into a smile, her eyes filled with affection.

The two chatted for a while until they reached the city hospital.
Beforehand, Jade’s secretary Sam had already arranged everything–VIP access, ready for a full checkup.
As soon as they got out of the car and headed toward the entrance, the wail of a siren cut through the night.
An ambulance screeched to a halt in front of the emergency ward, lights flashing.
Doctors rushed out, pushing a stretcher carrying a tall, unconscious young man. A middle–aged woman followed close behind, weeping and frantic.
Claudia paused. Something about the woman’s back looked strangely familiar.
“Claudia, what are you staring at?”
Jade called to her from a few steps ahead. Claudia quickly answered and caught up, dismissing the thought.
The VIP lane moved quickly. In no time, the paperwork was complete.
Claudia accompanied Jade through the examinations, with Sam trailing behind carrying documents.
Just as Jade began her second test, Claudia waited outside the door. Her phone suddenly vibrated.
She answered, only to be met with a woman’s desperate sobbing.
“Ma’am, please, can you save him? I–I walked in and he just collapsed, his face so pale. I can’t reach the boss. The surgery needs a signature. I… I… will he die?”
The woman on the other end was crying so hard she could barely form words.

Claudia couldn’t make sense of it. She calmed her as best she could, waited until she steadied a little, then asked the hospital’s location.
It turned out to be the very same city hospital.
