The way people looked at me changed. 

“I didn’t expect Dr. Sutton to be this kind of person.” 

“Oh my god, I really misjudged her!” 

“Could someone with such character be a doctor?” 

“She even stole a bracelet! How broke can you be?” 

The accusations were a crushing weight, like falling into an ice cave. 

My face paled, but I regained my composure, my calm unnerving. 

I knew Caroline had planted the bracelet. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been so sure. 

Had she sabotaged me repeatedly because of Jaxson? But our marriage was secret! How could she know? 

“Dr. Sutton, even if you like my bracelet so much, you shouldn’t have taken it without my notice, right?” 

Caroline looked disappointed.“Although this bracelet isn’t expensive, it’s my favorite. Even if you like it, you shouldn’t do this!” Gossip, blame, mockery–it all washed over me. 

I clenched my hand, my eyes cold and empty. 

Jaxson noticed my expression, his heart tightening. He looked at the crowd coldly.“Everyone, disperse.” 

Caroline looked at him in disbelief.“Jaxson…” 

“Did 

you all say that I stole her bracelet?” I asked, my voice clear. Jaxson’s brow furrowed, his eyes more mysterious. Ignoring him, I walked towards the stunned Caroline. 

Then, I raised my hand and slapped her. 

Shock rippled through the crowd. 

Everyone knew Caroline’s connection to Jaxson. 

Who dared hit her? 

Reynald was stunned. 

He’d never expected such a fiery temper from me.

Jaxson caught my wrist.“What are you doing?” 

I pushed him away, my eyes blazing.“What did I do? Steal? I don’t need that word.” 

I looked at Caroline, covering her cheek. 

“I dared to hit you in front of Mr. Hamilton, why would I bother stealing your bracelet? If I wanted it, couldn’t I just take it? Why use the word ‘steal‘?”
