After all these years, they still couldn’t bear the sight of him?

It was one thing for her mother–in–law–Claudia could understand Nancy’s inability to face the boy. But Chase and Alan too?
A father. A brother.
Harry’s life was hanging by a thread, and their reaction was as if they’d rather see him dead. What kind of family was this…
Claudia rubbed her aching temples.
Forget it. She would handle this one last time. After the divorce, none of the Moore family’s matters would have anything to do with her. They could tear themselves apart however they liked.
Claudia paid the medical and surgical fees, collected the receipts, and was about to leave.
Ruby, seeing her pillar of support about to walk away, panicked completely. She clutched Claudia’s hand and wailed, “Ma’am, I really can’t manage this on my own! If you leave, what will I do if something happens again?”
Her crying gave Claudia a headache.
She thought it over–since she had already signed the papers, she would at least wait until the operation was finished.
She had planned to call her grandaunt to explain, but then decided it would be better to go person. She reassured Ruby she would return and left for the health center.

Her absence had already displeased Jade.
When Claudia explained it was Moore family business, her grandaunt’s expression darkened further. “If the Moore family won’t care for their own child, why should you?”
Claudia could only answer softly, “Grandaunt, when I see that child, I think of myself. When I was young, wasn’t I just the same–ignored, unwanted by my parents…”
“Not the same at all!”

Jade’s disapproval was sharp. “He may be miserable, but he’s still been raised in wealth and luxury. You had it far worse.”
Claudia smiled faintly. “It’s all in the past.”
“Fine, fine.”
Though still displeased, Jade understood what her grandniece was thinking. She waved her hand. “You’re too good with words. I can’t argue with you. If you want to go, go.”
“Then, Grandaunt, when your checkup is done, let Sam take you straight home to rest. Don’t wait for me.”
Claudia gave a few more instructions before hurrying back to the emergency ward.
Given Harry’s condition, he would have to be admitted after surgery.
Claudia asked Ruby to return to the villa for fresh clothes and toiletries, while she herself handled the paperwork.
About an hour later, Harry was wheeled from surgery into a private room.
Ruby still hadn’t returned.
The doctor explained to Claudia, “Does this boy often skip meals, or binge when he does eat? It can’t go on like this. He’ll ruin his stomach. The appendicitis wasn’t the worst of it. From now on, he needs to be careful.”
Claudia hadn’t known, but she took careful note, planning to tell Ruby later.
After finishing the procedures and collecting the medicine, she sat in the chair by the bed, her gaze falling on the pale face of the young man.
Harry, like Alan, had been born with striking beauty.
But Alan’s beauty carried a sharp, dangerous edge, made harsher by his domineering presence. Without a smile, his foxlike eyes were intimidating. With one, they stirred unwanted desires.
Harry’s beauty was different–pure, refined, without aggression. Yet his personality cast a shadow over it, lending him a faint air of gloom.
Staring at the boy asleep on the bed, Claudia sighed softly.

Harry was only eighteen, nineteen at most, already driven into the operating room, with no family to care for him, rejected by his own blood. So much like her past self.
The only difference was that after marrying, she had escaped from the relatives who had once bled her dry. Harry was still trapped in the middle of it all.
Just then, something caught her eye.
There were faint traces of makeup left on his face. His features were already beautiful, but with powder it only looked out of place, cheapening him strangely.
But men wearing makeup wasn’t unusual anymore. She dismissed it without further thought.
She had been waiting a while when, instead of Ruby, someone unexpected appeared.
“Ma’am.”
Nathan pushed open the door and greeted her softly.
So Alan wasn’t entirely indifferent to his brother after all, Claudia thought–until Nathan spoke
next.
“Thank you for your help this time. But in the future, please stay away from Mr. Harry. His mind isn’t right. He could hurt you.”
Claudia couldn’t understand.
Harry was a direct son of the Moore family, a prince of the line. And Nathan, however much power he held in the household, was dismissing him as mentally ill? Who here was truly sick?
Unwilling to meddle further in Moore family affairs, Claudia handed over the doctor’s instructions, tossed Nathan the receipts for the surgery and medicine, and told him to transfer the money on time. Then she left.
She was divorcing Alan–of course she would keep the accounts clear.
Once she was gone, Nathan cast a cold glance at the boy asleep on the bed, then took out his phone and called Alan.
