Chapter 17

When I came home from the interview, Hugo was still waiting downstairs at my house.

He had a cigarette pinched in his hand and his expression looked very annoyed. His mobile phone kept

ringing.

Eventually, he had to pick up the call.

I was a little curious in my heart. A strange intuition told me that the content of this call was related to me.

So I didn’t appear in front of him immediately, but quietly listened to the content of his call.

‘Hugo, honey! Come on, tell me, will you give Emily’s work to me or not?”

Bella said on the other side of the phone. Her voice was very sultry.

‘I’ll give it to you, I’ll give it all to you!” Hugo coaxed her patiently, “Even you want my life, and I’ll give it to you! But Emily just lost her father and I don’t know how to mention this……”

How is her father as important as my award?”Bella pouted at him, “Also, you promised to marry me

before!”

Hugo hesitated for a while, a rare sight to be seen.

He thought for a moment and came up with a suitable reason: “All those award-winning designs you had before were actually stolen from Emily. If we suddenly get married, she won’t willingly hand over her lesigns to you! Those resources are too valuable to waste!”

Bella beamed in displeasure. “No way! I just want to marry you. Besides, what you’re worrying about isn’t a >roblem at all. My mom already knows we’re together, and she’s discussing a marriage alliance between her

and the Swinton family’s second young master!”

‘But what if she doesn’t agree?” Hugo asked.

Bella then sneered. “How is that possible? If she doesn’t agree, my mom has plenty of ways to take her father’s heritage away! If you’re really worried that she’ll find out, we can have a secret wedding. How about

that?”

“Alright, alright! I promise you!” Hugo couldn’t resist Bella’s requests laced in her sweet voice.

Bella gave Hugo a flying kiss on the other side of the phone. “Oh darling, I knew it! You’re the best! Tomorrow is a good day. Let’s go get our marriage certificate tomorrow, okay?” She mused happily.

I had been dating Hugo for five years and had always looked forward to a future with him, with marriage in

mind.

During our relationship, Hugo kept giving my design drafts to Bella, claiming that he was there to protect

her.

Since Bella had no boyfriend, we should help her more in her career.

I was hopelessly in love, always falling to Hugo’s words, unable to bring myself to refuse anything he asked for as soon as he opened that damned mouth of his.

But I never imagined that being with him was only to get my design drafts.

Even the piece Bella was using to enter the city-level jewelry competition this time was drawn by me.

Growing up with a natural talent for jewelry design, I casually drawn drafts could easily win awards, something that was beyond most people’s reach.

Every time I gave Bella a design draft, I would console my hurting self.

It’s okay, I’m still young. It’s okay, I still have the ability to come up with even better designs.

Today, Bella is a hotshot major designer, winning awards and doubling as Hugo’s personal secretary.

, on the other hand, was so unknown because I was a full-time wife taking care of Hugo that I couldn’t get or was rejected for even the most mundane of jobs.

What was even more unbelievable was that my mother, who had known about their affair early on, had been helping them in hiding it.

She even wanted to marry me off to the Swinton family’s second young master!

Didn’t she know what kind of notorious person he was?

But even so, I couldn’t just abandon my dad’s heritage.

He had passed away, and those are the only things he left me.
