My vision darkened.
I struggled desperately, but Alexander clamped his hand over my jaw, forcing me to swallow mouthful after mouthful.
“Cough… Stop…”
I choked, tears streaming down as liquor soaked my clothes.
Alexander finally released me, smirking as he tossed the empty bottle aside.
“Begging now? Didn’t think twice when stealing water, huh?”
Gasping for air, my throat burning like razors, I screamed, “Alexander… you’re fucking blind…”
“Still defiant?” He yanked my hair, forcing me to scan the room. “See? Who’d help you now?”
Drawing a shaky breath, I fought dizziness and shouted, “I demand to see the owner.”
The booth fell silent for a heartbeat before erupting in laughter.
“Hear that? She wants the owner! Clueless who runs this place?”
“Everyone knows he holds immense power–even helped cops solve cases!”
“Think he’ll save her? Hilarious!”
“Truth is, we’ve never even seen him…”
Nicole covered her mouth, giggling. “Katherine, the owner isn’t someone you just summon.”
“But the manager? That’s possible.”
Alexander chuckled, releasing my chin.
“Call the manager,” he told the waiter by the door. “Let Miss Katherine file her complaint.”
The waiter stifled a laugh and left.
Nicole leaned in, her shoulders shaking with amusement.

“Katherine, you’re stupidly adorable. The manager here? He’s tight with Alexander. Think he’ll side with you?”
I ignored her, eyes locked on the entrance.
Soon, a sharp–suited middle–aged man entered.
His gaze swept the booth, pausing when he saw me restrained.
“Jesse,” Alexander drawled, “this lady insists on seeing you.”
“Do you know her?”
Jesse approached me professionally. “How may I assist you, miss?”
I stared into his eyes, voice trembling. “You don’t recognize me?”
Another wave of laughter filled the room.
“Who does she think she is?”
“Delusional much?”
“Pathetic…”
Jesse frowned apologetically. “I’m afraid not.
Ice flooded my veins.

Impossible. Jesse worked under my brother for five years. Unless…
His fingers subtly adjusted his ring.
I understood–my brother’s coded signal!
He recognized me!
Jesse gave an imperceptible nod before turning to Alexander. “Shall I handle this, Alexander?”
Alexander waved him off. “We’re fine here.”
Jesse nodded, pausing to glance at me once more before leaving.
