Teresa snapped, “Pregnant? Seriously? Well, I wish you and your new wife, your new family, all the happiness in the world.”
Jonathan didn’t get what she meant. With a hint of sarcasm, he shot back, “Oh, so I’m living the good life now? Funny, no one told me. Who did you hear that from?”
The next second, Jonathan pretty much figured it out. He walked to a quieter spot and asked, “Did my mom tell you that?”
When Teresa congratulated him on having another kid, it really caught Jonathan off guard. He thought Teresa might be pregnant again, and he racked his brain trying to remember when that could’ve happened.
He thought, ‘It couldn’t have been when she was lactating–we never actually slept together then.’
Teresa said, “Who told me is none of your business, and what you do has nothing to do with me either.”
Then she said something else, but Jonathan didn’t catch it all. His voice softened a bit as he asked, “Do you miss me?”
Teresa exclaimed, “What?”
“Didn’t you just say, ‘We miss you“?” Jonathan asked.
Teresa was speechless. She snapped, “Are you deaf or something? I literally said No one misses you.”
Jonathan replied, “Mike definitely misses me, and I miss the kids too. The baby just turned one month old. How could I possibly have gotten remarried? I’m just busy, that’s all.”
“You’re so busy, do you even have time for Mike anymore? Have you ever thought about coming back to see your kids? Sure, you send money, but I guess I shouldn’t expect you to be a father,” Teresa said, her voice full of sarcasm.
“I admit I’ve been really busy lately. I’ve tried calling Mike, but I can never get through to his phone. Hello?” Jonathan said.
Noticing that Teresa had already hung up, he frowned. He thought, ‘It seems that she is still holding quite a grudge against me.’
After hanging up, Teresa blocked Jonathan completely. She thought, ‘Irene could forget about ever reaching me through that number again. I have already made everything clear.’
Ever since Jonathan left, Teresa had lost count of how many endless days and nights she’d spent muddling through life, missing him so much it nearly drove her insane.
After all those sleepless, torturous nights, she’d finally figured things out. From now on, she swore she’d never shed another tear for him–or any of his family dramas, ever again.

In Hakton, the priciest district of Nusridge, skyscrapers stretched into the sky.
Inside a luxury penthouse, Irene was cooking, waiting for Jonathan to get home.
“Jonathan, you’re back. I made you some gnocchi–want to have a bite?” Irene called out.
Jonathan walked in, staring hard at Irene. He asked, “You contacted her behind my back again, didn’t you?”
Irene played dumb. She asked, “Who? Teresa? Why would I contact her?”
Jonathan narrowed his eyes, clearly not buying it. He pressed, “You really didn’t reach out to her?”
Irene stomped her foot in frustration as she defended herself, “Why would I? You two aren’t even together anymore. Do I look like I have nothing better to do?”
Jonathan snorted and headed to his room to change.
Meanwhile, Irene started setting out the tableware. When Jonathan sat down, she placed a steaming bowl of gnocchi in front of him. She said, “You must be hungry. Come on, dig in.”
“I’m not hungry,” Jonathan said, not touching his fork.
“Then what do you want to eat? I’ll make it for you,” Irene said.
Jonathan shook his head and said, “I’m not hungry. I just want you to be straight with me–what did you say to Teresa behind my back this time?”
Irene kept pretending. She said, “I didn’t say anything. Did she call you again or something?”
“Again?” Jonathan repeated.
Irene pressed her lips together. Finally, she said, “All I told her was that I hoped she wouldn’t hurt you anymore. Is that so wrong?”
