Kendric’s expression darkened in an instant.
“Married? To whom? You’re my wife, how could you possibly marry someone else?”
Ignoring Juliette at his side, he strode straight toward me.
“Tell me! What the hell is going on?”
Seeing Kendric bristle, Juliette felt a pang of envy.
She forced a smile and stepped forward.
“Ken, the color of that marriage license looks odd. It’s obviously just a prop.
“Catriona’s only scared you’ll leave her for good, so she staged this whole thing to get you back.”
Juliette’s words soothed Kendric’s fury.
He gave me a meaningful look and let out a cold laugh.
“Yeah, everyone knows you’re so obsessed with me you’ve got no dignity left. Except for me, who’d ever want someone like you?”
After nine years entangled with Kendric, I had long since become the disgrace of high society.
Not just among friends, even the staff at the city hall knew us by name.
When they learned I was marrying someone else, they offered heartfelt congratulations.
And they even rushed the paperwork through so I could have the license in hand before Kendric ap- peared.
And now, hearing his words, the staff behind us rapped the table in disapproval,
“Young man, marriage is a solemn matter. No one would joke about it.
“See? It is completely valid. There’s no way this could be fake.
“And Ms. Whitworth’s new husband is tall, handsome, and refined. A far cry from someone.‘

After hearing these words, Kendric’s face sank further.
For once, he didn’t lean on the Holloway name. Instead, he snatched the license from my hands.
“I don’t believe it. No one would dare cross the Holloway family, dare take what’s mine.

“Just because I don’t want her doesn’t mean anyone else can have her. I want to know who would be that bold. I’ll have them ruined immediately.”
My weakened body was no match for him. Kendric snatched the license away from me in an instant.
He glared at it with boiling rage.
But the curse on his lips died halfway out. His face twisted, words stuttering. “How… how could it be him?”
Just then, a tall man walked up behind me.
One hand cradled a bouquet of crimson roses, the other settled firmly at my waist.
“Don’t be afraid,” he murmured. “I’m here.”
Kendric’s face blanched.
He sized me up in disbelief.
Confused, Juliette gently tugged at Kendric’s sleeve.
“Ken, why are you staring at Catriona like that? Don’t tell me you still have feelings for her.
“She can marry whoever she wants. You’re divorced, it’s none of your business. Let’s go get our license. I can’t wait to be your wife.”
But her syrupy words failed to move him this time.
He shoved her aside, fumbling, almost panicked.
“Catriona… this isn’t real, right?
“Tell me it’s all fake. I was wrong. I won’t mess around anymore. Let’s just go home, live quietly–just
us.”
But when he saw our fingers intertwined, saw how I didn’t even glance his way, his words turned des- perate–like he was trying to convince himself.
“You’re doing this to punish me, aren’t you? To teach me a lesson. This is all just an act, right?
