Chapter28

“Lisa, you shouldn’t be here. You’re just an orphan. Did you really think that face could secure your po- sition as Mrs. Ford? Stop deluding yourself. Alexander has always loved me.”

Vivian spoke with righteous indignation, deliberately provoking her:

“You should know-if you ruin things between Alexander and me, Gerald won’t let you off.”

Indeed, she’d invoked her mother.

Lisa stared back icily, her gaze freezing cold.

A long-unseen face flashed through her mind-the very face that had brought her endless suffering.

Vivian fanned the flames:

“Face reality, Lisa. When things got dangerous, Alexander rushed to save me first. You know what that

means.’

Lisa looked at this woman and parted her cold lips: “Vivian, you’re pathetic.”

Vivian snapped instantly.

“What did you say, Lisa?

You’re the pathetic one-Alexander doesn’t love you!

Bet

you

didn’t know-while you were miscarrying, he was in my bed.”

Vivian covered her mouth with a mocking laugh, aware of the statement’s cruelty.

Lisa’s eyes darkened for just a second before clearing.

“Well then, Miss Campbell better work harder to upgrade that status.”

Vivian smirked confidently. “Lisa, I’ve got plenty of ways to make Alexander strip you of everything.”

Matthew happened to approach just then. Hearing the vicious words, fury ignited within her-though her lips curved into an icy smile.

“Wow, if it isn’t the movie queen Vivian?”

Matthew’s voice carried just enough for those nearby to hear, her sarcasm dripping with undisguised contempt.

“Someone really went all out with this outfit today. Almost thought we were at a red carpet event.”

Vivian’s smile froze mid-curve. Turning to face Matthew, a flash of revulsion darted through her eyes before being swiftly masked by a perfectly plastic smile.

“Don’t tease, Miss Johnson. Today marks the Ford Family’s fiftieth anniversary. Dressing formally is simply showing respect.”

“Respect?”

Matthew snorted, closing the distance. Though her voice dropped, her eyes sharpened into venomous daggers.

“First time I’ve seen someone who knowingly plays the other woman act so righteous and unburdened. Miss Campbell, your mental fortitude is wasted outside espionage films!”

“How dare you!”

Vivian’s face paled, her voice sharpening as she nearly fumbled her wineglass.

“Matthew, stop slandering me!”

“Slander?” Matthew arched an eyebrow, her tone turning razor-sharp. “Deep down, don’t you have any self-awareness? Just now you were bragging about your… bedroom prowess. What? Can’t handle a little truth? Tsk. Amateur move.”

Curious glances began drifting their way as the surrounding guests noticed the escalating tension.

Blindfolded Performance, She Stunned the Crowd

Vivian trembled with rage, but her last shred of reason warned her not to make a scene here. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Excuse me, I have mat- ters to attend.”

“Don’t rush off.”

Matthew grabbed her wrist firmly, making Vivian wince in pain.

Leaning close, Matthew whispered with malicious glee, audible only to them:

“Looking this stunning today, Ms. Campbell. Why not go remind Bruce of your existence?

Rumor has it MC’s scouting for a spokesperson, and Roy Montgomery’s the top contender.

Better step up your game, or this golden opportunity will slip through your fingers.”

MC was now a global luxury brand under the Bennett empire.

Vivian’s heart lurched!

A Bennett endorsement?

Roy?

That woman’s been rising fast lately. If she snatched the Bennett deal, Vivian’s standing in fashion cir- cles could crumble.

Worse yet, the Bennett family’s opinion….

Her face flushed then paled. She yanked her hand free, shooting Matthew a poisonous glare. Forget maintaining movie queen poise-she hurried off in a specific direction.

Watching Vivian’s retreating figure, Matthew’s eyes flashed with triumph.

She beckoned a nearby waiter, who approached respectfully.

Matthew murmured instructions, casual as if ordering coffee.

The waiter listened impassively, giving an almost imperceptible nod before melting into the crowd.

Matthew returned to Lisa’s side.

Lisa sipped juice calmly, detached from the earlier chaos.

“Mad?”

Matthew sat down, winking.

Lisa smiled softly. “Underestimating me or overestimating her?”

Matthew nudged Lisa’s shoulder playfully. “That champagne tower was Vivian’s doing. Don’t worry- I’ve got us covered. Payback time!”

Just then, banquet hall lights dimmed. A spotlight hit the main stage.

The host spoke, inviting Alexander forward.

deep gaze swept the room with a faint smile.

“Good evening, everyone.”

His resonant voice filled the hall.

“My apologies for the earlier disturbance.”

He bowed slightly.

Thunderous applause answered him.

A hostess offered red wine; he accepted a glass.

“Thank you for joining Ford Enterprises’ fiftieth anniversary.

Fifty years of perseverance, built on your trust—our most precious cornerstone.

Tonight, let’s embark anew, weaving brilliance together!”

Thank you all, cheers to everyone!”
