Chapter 4

Naturally, I didn’t take his threats seriously.

The third-party management team called to say they’d taken full control. They already handled all the staffing issues and finalized the list of people going to the Africa branch.

I was very satisfied with their efficiency. All I asked was for them to check the operating room surveillance footage from the day the kids had surgery.

A few days ago, I couldn’t even get access because Theodore wouldn’t let me. The staff took his side. The moment I mentioned wanting to see the footage, they all started making excuses.

Now, no one could stop me.

But a few minutes later, the management team called back.

They sounded apologetic as they said, “The video from that day has been deleted.”

My knuckles turned white as I held the phone. I didn’t even need to guess who was behind it.

To protect his favorite student, he’d really do just about anything.

“Don’t worry, our tech team can try to recover it.”

I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding and immediately said that if they could get it back, everyone’s bonus would be doubled.

As soon as the list came out, my phone started blowing up with calls.

These were the same doctors who used to say, “Ms. Hackett, thank you for training me to become a doctor.”

Now, all their messages were full of curses.

“Luna, you can’t catch your husband’s lover, so now you’re taking it out on us? You can forget using me as a scape- goat. I’ll tell the media everything. I’m not giving you a penny, and I’m not going to Africa.”

“Ms. Hackett, please have mercy. I’m getting married soon and still paying off my mortgage. Don’t drag me into your fight with Dr. Gibson.”

“Old witch, just you wait. Once Dr. Gibson divorces you and my bestie takes your place, we’ll see how long you can keep acting so high and mighty.”

サ

I went through each of their resumes one by one and sent them over to the management company.

“Figure out exactly how much I spent training each of them. If they don’t want to go to Africa, then act according to the contract, they need to pay triple the cost.”

Chapter 4

I had actually been pretty kind.

Training a doctor isn’t easy, and it wasn’t easy for them to become good ones either.

I didn’t want to ruin their careers. I just wanted what’s mine.

When Theodore saw that the list had really come out and that both he and Mandy were still on it, he finally lost his cool.

As soon as I picked up the phone, his voice was already boiling with anger.

“How long are you gonna keep acting like this? Did you have to stir up so much drama that the whole hospital shuts down before you’re satisfied? Do you even know how many surgeries were scheduled that day? How do you expect those doctors to focus when they’re on that list?

“This is a hospital. A place to save lives, not somewhere for you to throw a tantrum and stir

up trouble.

“Take down that announcement right now. Come to the hospital and apologize to everyone. And give them a full year’s bonus for the damage you’ve caused!”

I answered quietly, “They all signed the funding contract back then, agreeing to follow any deployment orders from the hospital. Now that the order’s out, if they can’t handle it, then they don’t deserve to be doctors at all.”

On the other end of the line, he started breathing hard and muttered a few curses.

“You’re insane! Fine. Since you won’t listen to me, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

“Luna, remember this. You were the one who started this.”

The call ended, but I didn’t feel any satisfaction at all.

Just bitterness and sadness.

I used to tell myself that it wasn’t that he didn’t love me or the kids. It was just that he had a cold personality.

But it turned out that he could get angry and lose control, which meant he had never really loved us.

I wasted ten years with someone who never truly loved me and watched him kill my two kids.

I didn’t reply to any of the insults.

And as if just to push me further, Theodore started to retaliate in public.
