Doctor 9

Chapter 9

With shaky hands, I clicked to play the operating room footage the technicians had just fixed.

This was the first time, and maybe the last, I’d ever watch this whole surgery.

On the screen, my older son was lying quietly on the operating table. Everything seemed to be under control. Theodore looked focused, his moves were smooth and skilled, and the surgery was going well.

He wiped sweat off his forehead and said to the assistant next to him, his voice shaky, “You take over the stitching. I’m going to check on the younger one.”

Right after he left, everything suddenly went wrong.

The alarm started blaring, the ECG dropped fast, and the whole operating room suddenly turned into chaos.

“Heart rate’s dropping! Blood pressure’s all over the place!”

A bunch of doctors rushed in to help, checking the numbers and vital signs.

“The anesthesia is off!” one doctor shouted, pointing straight at Mandy. “You gave the wrong dose! Are you out of your mind?”

But Mandy stayed completely calm, looking up with a smirk.

“Dr. Gibson was the one who set this up,” she said coldly. “He told me to take care of it myself. If something’s wrong, go talk to him.”

The doctor was shaking with anger. “You’re playing with people’s lives! Step aside now! We must save…”

Mandy raised her hand to stop them, and a few hospital staff who were on her side rushed over and held the doctor back.

“What do you think you’re doing? How dare you act out like this? Who do you think

you are?”

are?” they sneered.

Mandy was still smiling smugly. “Didn’t you hear me? I said Dr. Gibson told me to get rid of these little bastards.

“Luna will be gone sooner or later, too, taken care of by Dr. Gibson himself. This whole hospital will belong to him. And I’ll be the one running the place.

“As long as I want to, I can even have a few kids with him. These little brats had no reason to be here.”

The doctor turned pale with anger. He was beyond furious, but there was nothing he could do. He just stormed off. “You will all regret this.”

After a few moments, Theodore staggered back into the room.

When he saw the heartbeat line on the monitor had gone flat, he just froze.

Mandy had already thrown herself into his arms, sobbing, “I tried everything… I really did… The children just couldn’t be saved…

“Ms. Hackett already hates me… She’ll think I killed the children for sure…”

Theodore hugged her, his face pale as he remained silent for a long moment.

After a while, he shut his eyes and said quietly, “It was fate and no one’s fault… I’ll talk to her.”

The surveillance footage ended here.

I nearly collapsed, falling to my knees with a loud thud. I kept crying out my kids’ names, over and over again. “Oliv- er, Adam, I’m sorry, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have let that bastard, Theodore, perform the surgery.”

At that moment, I just couldn’t hold it together anymore. I let out a heart-wrenching cry.

The chat in the livestream exploded right away.

“So it’s true… She wasn’t crazy or imagining things. It was really the kids’ father and his lover who killed the kids.”

“That evil Mandy, she totally did this on purpose! Theodore, you’re not even fit to be a doctor. You’re a killer!”

“Ms. Hackett, I’m really sorry. We were wrong about you before.”

“I cried so hard when she dropped to her knees and called the kids’ names. Oh my god.”

“Theodore should be banned in the entire country!”

“Theodore and Mandy should be behind bars!”

The assistant doctor who walked out that day finally stepped forward, too.

He stood in front of the reporters’ cameras, eyes red and voice shaky. “I can confirm that this video is real. I saw it with my own eyes. She gave the wrong dose of anesthesia.

“At that time, I tried to save the kids. But they stopped me… I really… I’m so sorry…

“After that, Theodore accused me of ‘neglecting my duty during surgery’ and fired me. Mandy even warned me that if

I ever told Ms. Hackett the truth, they’d make sure I couldn’t work in the medical field again.

“I regret it… I really wish I’d spoken up sooner.”

Right after him, the hospital’s surveillance system manager also came forward.

He apologized nervously. “It was me… I was the one who deleted the footage on Mandy’s orders. She said it was all arranged by Dr. Gibson and that there was no need to keep a record of that surgery.

“I didn’t dare to say no to them. I didn’t mean to do it.”

As one by one they came forward, my heart didn’t soften even for a little bit.

My children couldn’t come back.

This truth, this regret… They’re way too late for me.
