down!”

Elara was thrown heavily against the wall, a sharp pain in her forehead as warm liquid streamed

down her cheek.

After an unknown time, confused footsteps echoed from outside.

“Is everyone inside alright?” A rescuer’s voice called through the elevator door.

“Help us quickly!” Cassandra pounded on the elevator door. “My leg is stuck!”

The screech of metal prying filled the air, and a blinding beam of light shone in.

1:48 pm

A rescuer peered in, his face grim. “Mr. Thorne, both ladies’ legs are pinned by the deformed door, but time is critical. We can only save one right now. Who do you want us to save first?”

Through Elara’s blurry vision, she saw Dominic standing behind the rescuer with the two children.

His gaze fell on Cassandra, and he didn’t hesitate. “Save Cassandra.”

“Save Auntie Cassie first!” Leo and Mia cried, pulling at the rescuer’s sleeve. “Hurry and save her!”

The rescuer frowned. “Mr. Thorne, young master, young lady, the other lady is more severely njured. We recommend saving her first.”

“I said, save Cassandra!” Dominic’s voice was as cold as ice.

The rescuer sighed, then reached in to pull Cassandra out.

Elara watched them carefully rescue Cassandra. Meanwhile, the elevator door, losing half its upport, let out a terrible creaking sound-

“Crash!”

The deformed metal crashed heavily onto her leg, and excruciating pain instantly swept through her ntire body.

The last thing she saw was Dominic carrying Cassandra away, and the children’s joyful expressions.

Darkness completely swallowed her consciousness.

When Elara opened her eyes again, the blinding white light made her instinctively squint.

The scent of disinfectant filled her nostrils, and the rhythmic “beep-beep” of a heart monitor echoed

n her ears.

“Awake?” The doctor approached, checking her pupils. “Three broken ribs. Thankfully, she was brought in quickly, or she wouldn’t have made it.”

Elara stared blankly at the ceiling, the last moments before the elevator fell replaying in her mind.

Dominic had unhesitatingly chosen to save Cassandra, and when the deformed elevator door crashed down on her, he hadn’t even looked back.

1:48 pm D

She tried to move, and intense pain immediately spread from her chest throughout her body.

But strangely, not a single tear fell. Perhaps the pain was so extreme, even her heart had grown

numb.
