Three days later, Dominic came to pick her up from the hospital.

He stood at the ward door, impeccably dressed in his suit, his gaze resting on her bandaged chest.

He remained silent for a long time before finally speaking: “Cassandra still needs to dance in the uture. I couldn’t let anything happen to her leg.”

Elara slowly looked up at him.

“So, you had to be the one to endure it.” His tone was calm, as if discussing the weather. “You’re a

tay-at-home wife. Even if your mobility is affected, it won’t make much difference.”

Elara said nothing, but for the first time, she saw the man she had loved for half her life with such

tark clarity.

His features were still as handsome as a god’s, yet in those eyes, her reflection was never present.

“Dominic,” her voice was hoarse. “If I had died that day, would you have cared?”

Dominic’s brow furrowed even deeper, and he didn’t answer.

He pulled a black card from his inner suit pocket and placed it on the bedside table. “Don’t ask such neaningless questions. This is compensation. As long as you stay in your place and raise the two children, you’ll always be Mrs. Thorne.”

Elara suddenly laughed.

In her previous life, she had died with the title of “Mrs. Thorne.” But what did it matter?

She was the one who died alone, she was the one forgotten, she was the one consumed by flames,

So, in this life, she disdained being his wife again.

She wanted to live better, brighter. She wanted to have someone who truly loved her…

She couldn’t hold back any longer. The words were almost out, ready to tell him she no longer

wanted him

wanted him.

“Dominic, I…”

Her phone suddenly rang, cutting her off.

Dominic answered. Cassandra’s sweet voice drifted from the receiver: “Dominic, the children and I are waiting for you at the restaurant. We have a surprise!”

His eyes instantly softened. “I’ll be right there.”

Hanging up, Dominic glanced at his watch, his tone turning cold again. “Something came up. I’ll be out for a bit. The driver is waiting downstairs for you.”

His departing back was tall and slender. Elara’s fingers unconsciously dug into her palm, but she ultimately didn’t speak to make him stay.

It didn’t matter. Soon enough, he’d learn from Cassandra that the divorce agreement had taken effect. She no longer wanted him, nor did she want the two children who treated her like a stranger.

“Mrs. Gable.” Elara pressed the call button. “Please send my luggage to the airport.”
