Waylon leaned down and whispered in my car, “The real reason is that you’re the one I’ve always loved.”
I froze.
Waylon continued, “In my past life, Maya took your place. After I married her, I realized she wasn’t the person I was looking for
at all.”
He gently caressed my cheek with his fingertips, his voice low and tender: “You’re the one I want to cherish and protect.”
My heart skipped a beat.
So the tragedy of my past life wasn’t just because of Maya’s greed—it was also because she stole the destiny that rightfully belonged to me.
I looked up at Waylon and smiled softly.
“Then in this life, how do you plan to make it up to me?” I asked.
Waylon smiled and pulled me into his arms.
“I’ll spend my entire lifetime making it up to you. Is that enough?” he said.
Waylon threw me a grand wedding. As he held my hand, this

was the first time since my rebirth that I truly felt alive.

On our wedding day, I saw Michael and Bella. They were crying, trembling as they tried to reach for my hand. But my gaze remained cold.
This couple, who had always dressed in luxury, now wore shabby clothes. Their backs were hunched, and gray streaked their temples.
Maya’s imprisonment must have dealt them a devastating blow.
“Lydia.” Bella’s voice broke the moment she spoke.
I dodged their touch and said coldly, “I didn’t invite you. If you have something to say, say it. If not, please leave.”
Michael initially looked like he wanted to get angry, but when he saw my icy stare, his expression immediately softened.
“Lydia, we were wrong. We shouldn’t have favored Maya. Now seeing how happy you are, how much Mr. Bennett loves you, we can rest easy,” he said.
I didn’t know how much sincerity was in those words—I just found them disgusting.
I’d already heard that all of the Garcia family’s assets had been seized and the company had completely collapsed.

I also knew that Maya wouldn’t help the Garcia family–she’d only make their downfall happen faster.
Now Michael was working as a driver while Bella worked as a hotel cleaner.
This couple, who had once lived so comfortably, now did the most menial jobs for meager wages, yet they still came to my wedding wearing what they considered their “best” clothes.
I smiled slightly: “So what? Should I be grateful to you? Or should I invite you to live at the Bennett mansion and continue enjoying life?“.
Michael and Bella’s expressions froze instantly as they looked at me with guilt.
I asked the question I’d always wanted to ask but had never bothered to:
“If Maya were the one marrying Waylon today, and you two had ended up this badly, would you come out and embarrass her? Would you let everyone see her parents in such a sorry state without worrying about making her unable to hold her head up?”
Michael and Bella hung their heads in shame, their fingers clutching at their clothes.
I laughed: “You wouldn’t. Even if you were eating the worst food

and living the hardest life, you wouldn’t disturb Maya. You don’t realize you were wrong–you’re just afraid I won’t support you.”
I paused, then continued: “Don’t worry, I’ll give you the support payments you’re owed. But if you’re hoping I’ll save Maya, don’t even bother asking. This is what she deserves, and so do you.”
With that, I walked away.
Behind me, I heard Michael’s quiet voice: “We just wanted to see you. I didn’t think we’d cause you trouble. I’m sorry.”
My steps faltered for a moment, finding it even more ironic.
How could they not have thought of that?
If Maya were the one marrying Waylon today, they would have considered countless possibilities, terrified of embarrassing her. But I wasn’t Maya.
Waylon walked over and gripped my hand tightly.
“I’m here for you. From now on, I’m not just your lover—I’m your family too,” he said.
That was enough.
The End.
