He stared at that familiar–yet–strange face. She gazed blankly at him, one hand idly playing with a thin surgical scalpel. Her fingers were delicate and long, yet the sight of the blade gliding between them was chilling.
The scalpel twirled slowly between her fingertips, making the air seem to constrict.
Felix realized, with a start, that he was drenched in sweat. He gritted his teeth and fixed his eyes on Isla’s face. “What are you doing here?”
Years ago, it had been Isla who betrayed him, causing him to be ridiculed by the entire school, his humiliation immortalized online. What did he have to fear?
Felix comforted himself.
Isla stopped her movement, straightened, her eyes calm–but within that calmness lurked a subtle, unidentifiable cruelty. “Just now who were you yelling at?”
Logan, observing the man before them, asked Isla with curiosity, “Do you know him?”
“Not just know him we’re quite familiar,” Isla replied, studying the man.
He was wearing a white coat and glasses, exuding an air of refined handsomeness.
Felix had once been the heartthrob of the medical department; countless people had vied for his attention.
Yet he had stooped to pursue her, spending over a year before Isla had finally relented.
She had thought she had found true love, and had been overjoyed.
But behind her back, he conspired with Aurora, ruining countless competition opportunities. From a medical prodigy, she had been reduced to a person with a tarnished reputation.
When she finally hit rock bottom, he not only failed to help but even joined in trampling her.
Felix snapped back to reality, realizing how rigid his body had become. He knew without looking that his face must have been ghastly,
“Your expression is truly something,” Isla suddenly said, laughing.
“Wh–what do you mean? What are you doing here?” Felix tried to steady himself, a mix of anger and barely suppressed fear in his eyes.
Logan sneered, “And who exactly are you? How dare you talk to Isla like that?”

Isla, usually treated with utmost care even by the director’s assistant, was being addressed so arrogantly by this man?
Felix glanced at Logan and sneered coldly, “And who’s this? Years have gone by, yet you still play around so much? Isn’t obstetrics not in this department? Need me to show
“What?” Logan didn’t understand the meaning of his words.
Isla, however, smiled, “You haven’t changed a bit from back then.”
Felix’s
you the way?”
gaze instantly darkened. “Do you even realize what you’ve done? Always out with a bunch of men late at night, who knows how many times you’ve ended up in a hospital, yet you act all pure? Sickening.”
Her reputation had been ruined.
Every time she entered a hospital, rumors spread that she was there for an abortion.
And not just once.
Now seeing her arrive with another man, he couldn’t help but mock.
Logan’s temper flared. If he still didn’t understand the meaning behind these words, he really was an idiot.
He stormed forward and grabbed Felix by the collar. “What did you just say? Watch mouth.”
your
“What are you doing? This is a hospital. Do you want me to call security and have you thrown out?” Felix’s voice trembled, but he quickly hardened, scolding fiercely.
Logan’s gaze turned icy. He raised his hand, ready to strike.
Suddenly, the elevator opened, and the director and vice–director walked out.
Seeing them, Felix shoved Logan aside, feeling as if he had found a shield. “You came just in time. There’s someone causing trouble here.”
But the two ignored him completely, hurrying forward with anxious expressions, their voices soft and coaxing. “Isla, where were you? I finally got your mentor to let go–don’t run off. Come on, everyone’s waiting for you.”
Felix’s blood ran cold.
It wasn’t until the group moved past that he finally realized had he misheard?
How could the hospital staff treat someone like Isla with such reverence and deference?

At that moment, in the VIP ward, David hurried into the room. He paused for a moment as he looked at the girl sitting by the bedside.
Aurora wore a simple, elegant white dress, carefully peeling an apple in her hands. Her gentle features radiated warmth, making anyone in her presence instantly feel at ease.
David fell silent for a moment, instinctively glancing at the man resting on the bed before hesitating to speak.
Aurora seemed to sense something. She handed the peeled apple to the man on the bed, her voice soft and considerate. “It seems you are busy, David. I should get back to my work. Mr. Ellsworth, please rest well. I’ll come check on you later.”
Her tone was sweet, like she was speaking to a lover. Her cheeks flushed slightly as she spoke, her beauty captivating.
Yet the man on the bed remained unresponsive, nodding faintly.
Aurora’s lips pressed together in mild disappointment as she left the high–end hospital room.
Ronan was not as easy to approach as she had imagined.
Even after being rescued by her, he was merely tolerant, not affectionate.
Winning a place in his heart would not be so simple.
But Aurora was undeterred; she wasn’t afraid that he wouldn’t eventually care for her if she could get close enough.
Once she left, David finally spoke, “Mr. Ellsworth, I’ve heard that Gideon Fairchild’s student has returned to the country and was invited to the hospital today by the director. This student achieved great success abroad, has won numerous awards, and is rumored to possess the skill to revive the dead. She’s very famous overseas. Perhaps, given your leg condition, she might be able to help.”
Ronan had injured his leg years ago. Even after returning to the Ellsworth family, the family had sought the world’s top doctors for treatment. But because the injury was not treated promptly at the time, it left a lasting problem, making full recovery nearly impossible.
Yet the world was full of miracles. If someone could bring the dead back to life, perhaps a leg injury could be healed as well.
Ronan’s pupils suddenly contracted. “Arrange it. Let her handle it however she wants.”

“Yes, Mr. Ellsworth.” David turned and left, pausing briefly as his gaze fell on the untouched apple before leaving the room.
Ronan clenched his fists tightly, his eyes drifting toward the window. Suddenly, his gaze froze.
Downstairs, a couple was walking side by side. The woman was simply dressed, but her face was unforgettable.
It was Isla, his newly delivered wife.
Ronan furrowed his brows, displeasure flashing in his eyes.
Isla, listening to Logan’s complaints from a distance, suddenly felt a shiver run through her body, as if a terrifyingly cold aura had locked onto her.
She turned to look.
Behind her, the hospital courtyard was sparsely populated. A few patients wandered lazily, and no one was at the windows above.
