The students quickly sided with her. “No problem.”
“Since you can’t answer, then stay standing,” Isla said calmly.
Lucas felt his blood boil.

She continued, pointing at another boy. “You, answer this question for your classmate who isn’t paying attention.”
The boy stood up and shot Lucas a smile.
Lucas was livid. That boy was his rival—they had fought over a girl before–and now, seeing him face–to–face only fueled his resentment.
Of all the students, Isla had to pick him.
Seeing Lucas lose face, Elias Carrington grinned and began answering the question.
Then he mocked Lucas, “Lucas, did your family buy your way in? You can’t even answer such a simple question. How do you expect to become a doctor? I suggest you change your major before you end up causing harm to others.”
Lucas’s eyes turned red with anger. “Don’t get too cocky, you-”
Elias shrugged. “Do I have a point?”
A cold female voice rang out from the podium. “He’s right. Someone like you, with no basic manners, is indeed unfit to be a doctor.”
Lucas clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles cracked. Glaring venomously at Isla, he kicked his chair and stormed out.
The classroom erupted in exclamations, their eyes full of surprise and disdain as they followed him. Those looks felt like searing needles, burning into Lucas’s face, making it impossible for him to hold his head high.
Tobias sat frozen, dumbfounded, unsure what had just happened.
Isla smirked at the boy’s angry retreat.
Back when she had been insulted, she had stood helpless, allowing people to criticize her without response.
What must it feel like for Lucas to hear the same words he had hurled at her? “You’re an idiot.

Chapter 17 The Gossip
Someone like you has no business being a doctor. Don’t embarrass Aurora.”
Now, how would it feel if the same words were directed at him?

Meanwhile, in the laboratory, Aurora and her group had been waiting for over an hour.
Their faces were grim.
Several journalists, having spent considerable money to gain access, began grumbling.
“Wasn’t Gideon’s student supposed to arrive? Why haven’t they shown up?”
“Don’t tell me it’s a scam.”
“I heard Angle always works alone and doesn’t like outsiders interfering. Why did you bring so many people?”
“Isn’t this Miss Beaumont? I thought she was just an intern. How does someone like her get to participate in this experiment?”
“I’ve heard of her, too. Apparently, she doesn’t want to marry a family that’s already bankrupt and is too picky about status, so she sent her sister instead.”
“Miss Beaumont, what connections did you use to get involved in this experiment?”
“No wonder Gideon’s student isn’t coming–could it be because your reputation is too bad?”
The crowd’s whispers, for some reason, gradually started centering on Aurora, who stood nearby.
Aurora froze, her beautiful face instantly draining of color. “W–what are you saying?”
“No way, Miss Beaumont, you didn’t know? The news about you sending your sister into the fire has already spread to the Ellsworth family, and the major newspapers have been covering it thoroughly,” a reporter continued.
“Is that true?”
“And how is it that an intern like you can participate in such an experiment? Can you explain?”
Questions crashed over Aurora like a tidal wave, nearly drowning her.
Her face turned pale.
The other doctors and professors, realizing what was happening, immediately ushered the

By then, the associate professor’s assistant had rushed in, whispering something into his ear. The associate professor’s face darkened instantly.
“Everyone, please leave. Angle won’t be attending this experiment, and those from Cloudie Hospital–you need to explain this situation,” he snapped through gritted teeth.
If this story spread via the press, it would inevitably damage the reputation of their university.
Angle not showing up was minor, but using connections to pull strings behind the scenes was a major issue.
These fools had ruined everything.
The visitors from Cloudie Hospital were promptly escorted out.
The mentor glared at Aurora, furious. “What’s going on? How did reporters even know you?”
He had always been satisfied with Aurora as a student, mentoring her closely since she joined the hospital. This time, he had even arranged a prime opportunity for her, and yet, because of this incident, not only had they offended the university, but the hospital’s reputation was also at stake.
If the director blamed him, he would be finished.
Aurora’s face was as pale as paper, her lips trembling. She couldn’t even speak.
How could they possibly know about this? The Ellsworth family?
No, that was impossible. If the Ellsworth family had dared to cross them, it would have happened long ago.
