Chapter 20 The Truth
Owen glared at Logan, furious. “Let go.”
Logan didn’t back down.
“Let’s go. Don’t bother with them,” Isla said coldly, her voice utterly devoid of warmth.
From behind, Jasper’s confused voice called out. “Why?”
Isla paused for a moment.
“Why go against us?” Jasper added.
Why?

The question was absurd. Isla scoffed lightly and continued walking, leaving the school without another word.

Back at home, Jasper and Owen returned to a tense atmosphere.
Aurora sat next to Cora, her eyes red from crying, while Lucas’s face was dark and stormy.
Julian frowned as he watched them return alone. “Weren’t you supposed to bring Isla back? Why didn’t you?”
The two shrugged. “She wouldn’t come. There was nothing we could do.”
Aurora sobbed quietly, “It’s all my fault. My parents told me to go apologize to Isla. She can do whatever she wants; I just want her to forgive me.”
Jasper and Owen exchanged confused glances. “What happened? Did she cause trouble for you?”
Cora’s face twisted in anger. “Isla even bribed reporters and exposed the fact that we forced her to stand in for marriage in the lab. Now the hospital wants to fire Aurora. I swear, I could crush her. How did I give birth to such a bitch?”
Lucas spoke, his voice heavy with anger. “Somehow, she’s become a professor in our medical department, and today she even taught a class.”
The humiliation Isla caused at school today made it clear; he would never forgive Isla.
“What?” Owen and Jasper exclaimed in unison, shocked.

“Professor? How is that possible? She didn’t even graduate from university,” said Owen.

Lucas was equally bewildered. “I don’t know how this could happen. At first, I thought I must be wrong.”
So, Isla going to the school today wasn’t to cause trouble for Aurora; it was to teach a class.
The thought flashed through both of Jasper’s and Owen’s minds, but seeing Aurora’s red, swollen, and pained eyes, they immediately dismissed the idea. Their faces darkened.
What shocked them even more was the fact that Isla had become a professor.
Such a position wasn’t something money alone could buy. Moreover, Isla’s age qualifications were far from sufficient.
and
Three years ago, when Isla went abroad, she hadn’t even graduated from university.
What had happened during those three years abroad?
Since her departure, it seemed like no one had cared whether Isla lived or died.
This time, if it weren’t for Aurora being forced by the Ellsworth family to marry, she wouldn’t have come back at all.
But now, Isla’s return was astonishing; not only had she changed, but she brought with her an array of unbelievable events.
What had really happened?
Aurora found it hard to believe when she heard the news.
The Isla who had mercilessly trampled her underfoot in the medical department had now become a professor.
Meanwhile, she remained merely an intern, and now even faced the threat of losing her job.
Aurora bit her lip, her eyes flashing with resentment.
Aurora would never let Isla act so arrogantly. Three years ago, Isla could look down on her, and three years later, Aurora could turn the tables.
Did Isla think that changing her identity would allow her to live in peace?
Dream on.
Aurora smirked, feeling the support of the Ellsworth family behind her.

“I need to find out what happened to her during those three years abroad,” Jasper suddenly said.
Everyone silently nodded in agreement.

“Mr. Ellsworth, Miss Aurora Beaumont just called me. She’s run into some trouble and wanted your help,” David said carefully.
Ronan, who hadn’t seen Gideon’s student today and was in a foul mood, kept his eyes closed, exuding an air of menace. “What’s the matter?”
David glanced at his face nervously and explained, “It seems Isla, being manipulated by her family into marrying you, held a grudge and bribed reporters to ruin Aurora’s reputation. Now it’s become a big scandal and is affecting her career, so she’s asking for your help.”
David paused, thinking of something, then continued, “As for the stand–in marriage, Miss Aurora Beaumont apparently didn’t know in advance. Her family kept it from her, and she feels very guilty about it now.”
Without opening his eyes, Ronan said coldly, “Call someone and have it handled.”
“Yes, Mr. Ellsworth.” David nodded.
Outside, a fine drizzle began to fall, mirroring Ronan’s mood.
Pain throbbed in his legs.
The anger in Ronan’s eyes deepened.
His legs had already been weak from an old injury, and the recent car accident only worsened
- it.
David worriedly said, “Mr. Ellsworth, maybe you should go to the hospital?”
“No need. Take me home,” Ronan replied coldly.
They hadn’t driven far before they saw Isla walking ahead.
Isla wasn’t holding an umbrella, walking through the rain with her hair and clothes soaked, yet her steps remained steady and unhurried.
David froze, instinctively glancing at Ronan in the back seat.
