What happened yesterday vanished like fireworks fading into the night, leaving no trace
behind.

Aurora’s mood was getting better by the minute. With Ronan backing her, even if Isla had managed to become a professor, there was no way she could ever touch Aurora.
Sooner or later, Aurora would make sure Isla was kicked off that pedestal.
Aurora picked up her phone and called Lily.
They had always been close. Now that Lily knew Aurora had snagged herself a rich backer, she obeyed her every word without question.
It only took a few lines from Aurora, and Lily fell right in line.
Suddenly, a maid knocked on the door. “Miss, someone is here to see you.”
“Who is it?” Aurora asked.
“It’s Freya,” the maid replied.
Aurora’s lips curved into a sly smile. “Tell her I’m not home.”
“Yes, ma’am,” the maid said.

At Cloudie University, Lily had just heard from Aurora that Isla was now teaching in the medical department. The news hit her like a punch–she couldn’t wrap her head around it.
Aurora had brushed it off, saying vaguely that Isla’s family just wanted her to have a stable job. Lily immediately took it to mean Isla had simply bought her way in.
Still, it was hard to believe,
After all, they were from the same year. Lily hadn’t even managed to get into grad school, yet Isla had already landed a professor’s seat.
Back in freshman year, both she and Isla were star students in the medical program, competing in countless contests. But every single time, Isla had taken first place and walked away with the prize.
Lily had been living in Isla’s shadow ever since.

Chapter 27 The Lesson
So when Lily saw Isla marry a construction worker, she gloated. She spread the news everywhere, desperate to let the whole world know Isla’s life had taken a nosedive.
What she didn’t expect was that while it was true Isla had married that man, she had also become a professor.
Lily still ended up beneath her.

Her stomach twisted with rage. She wanted nothing more than to choke Isla with her bare hands.
So Lily gathered her nerve and waited for Isla at the administrative office building.
“Isla,” she spat, her voice dripping with venom.
Isla had just walked in with Logan, both carrying books. She turned her head and saw Lily’s face, twisted with malice.
Isla narrowed her eyes.
Back in college, Lily fought her tooth and nail over every competition and experiment.
She wasn’t just competing with Isla—she was also Aurora’s close ally. Together, they spread lies that Isla was jealous of Aurora for stealing the family’s affection, painting Isla as the bully. Her reputation in the department had been dragged through the mud.
Whenever Isla stumbled, Lily was always the first to sneer.
Rumors about Isla getting an abortion or fooling around with men? All traced back to Lily.
The two of them had ganged up for years, trying to grind Isla into the dirt.
And to top it off, Lily was Gemma’s stepsister–Gemma, Owen’s late girlfriend.
Back then, Lily had stepped up and accused Isla of being responsible for Gemma’s death.
Because of that, Owen had slapped Isla across the face.
What a coincidence.
Isla lowered her gaze, hiding whatever flickered in her eyes.
Instead of acknowledging Lily’s aggressive tone, she turned to Logan. “Logan, why are lunatics allowed to wander into the office building?”
Logan hadn’t even processed what was going on before Lily’s face went beet red. “Isla, who the hell are you calling a lunatic?” she roared.

“If you’re not one, why are you yelling so loud?” Isla shot back calmly.
Lily’s eyes bulged. She looked like she was about to tear herself apart. “Bitch, who do you are? You don’t even deserve to be in this school.”

Isla’s gaze stayed cool. “Why wouldn’t I? And Lily, do you know what happens if you get caught insulting a professor?”
Lily froze, her whole body trembling with fury. “Don’t get cocky, Isla. You think I don’t know your family paid to put you here? What kind of joke is it, you pretending to be a professor? Trash like you doesn’t belong here. Oh, and let’s not forget–you’re a murderer. Someone like you dares to keep practicing medicine? You disgrace the profession. Once I report this, let’s see how long you keep that title-”
Smack.
Before she could finish, Isla slammed the book in her hand straight across Lily’s face.
The blow was so hard that Lily toppled to the ground, clutching her cheek and shrieking.
“You actually hit me,” she screamed.
She stared at Isla in disbelief, her eyes bulging as if they might pop right out.
Isla rubbed her ear lazily. “You insulted me. I can’t exactly hurl insults back, but no one ever said I couldn’t hit you. Don’t you think?”
“Logan, throw her out. She’s too damn loud,” Isla added impatiently.
Logan swallowed hard and immediately stepped forward.
The commotion drew the attention of a nearby professor, who came out to investigate. “What’s going on here?” he asked, clearly surprised by the scene.
Lily’s eyes lit up the second she saw someone. She rushed to open her mouth and complain, but no sound came out–her voice was gone, as if someone had struck her mute.
Isla smiled gently, “Nothing serious. This student had a conflict with her classmate. She hit someone, so I called her over to write a reflection. Looks like she’s still not convinced she was wrong.”
The professor frowned at Lily, noticing the marks on her face. His expression turned sour. “You’re a university student. How can you still act so childish? I really don’t understand why students these days are so unreasonable.”
