Chapter 29 Lucas’s Confrontation.
Isla gave Lucas a sidelong glance, then calmly withdrew her gaze. “I don’t know him.”
Lucas froze on the spot.
What?
She doesn’t know me?

His eyes burned with fury as he glared at her, teeth grinding. “Isla, I dare you to say that again.”
Isla suddenly stepped closer. Lucas stiffened, caught off guard, but before he could react, she brushed past him without a backward glance.
Logan rolled his eyes at the guy standing there fuming. If his guess was right, Lucas was probably Isla’s brother.
How ironic. Why was it always the people closest to her who came to pick a fight?
Logan couldn’t figure it out. He shrugged and followed after her.
The two of them treated Lucas like he was invisible.
Lucas felt a heavy weight crush his chest, his anger threatening to explode.
He was always the one ignoring Isla–when had the roles reversed?
His fists clenched so tightly they cracked at the knuckles.
Meanwhile, Isla and Logan got into the car.
Logan’s phone buzzed suddenly. He glanced at the screen, frowning. “Isla, those guys really turned against Lily. They even took photos and sent them to me.”
Isla leaned back against the seat with her eyes closed, resting. Her voice was calm, almost bored. “Find a way to send them to Lily.”
Logan nodded. But then another thought hit him, and his brows furrowed deeper. “Isla, about Aurora’s scandal yesterday, someone managed to suppress it.”
Isla’s lips curled faintly, as if she’d already expected it. “Doesn’t matter. Just the appetizer.”
“The Beaumont family doesn’t have that kind of pull,” Logan said seriously. “Someone’s definitely backing them up. And whoever it is, they’re no small player. I’m worried they’ll come after you.”

Ever since Aurora’s mess, wave after wave of people had been coming to cause Isla trouble. Yesterday had already escalated into chaos. Logan was deeply uneasy.
Besides, a story that big disappearing overnight? That wasn’t something just anyone could pull
off.
The Beaumont family had money, sure, but not enough power to blot out the sky.
Isla opened her eyes, a sharp chill glinting in them. “How familiar are you with the Ellsworth family? The top dynasty–the one that showed up at the university yesterday.”
Logan’s eyes widened. “You’re saying it’s them?”
His expression grew grave. “Isla, if it really is the Ellsworth family, then this is going to be a problem.”
“I know.” Isla’s brows drew together, her voice low.
Aurora’s luck was unbelievable; she’d managed to latch onto someone from that powerful family.
Isla had never crossed paths with the Ellsworth family before, but just from yesterday’s scene- and the look on Logan’s face–she could tell they weren’t people to mess with.
The Ellsworth family, huh?
Her eyes lowered, cold and unreadable. “Didn’t you mention the other day that Ellsworth Group’s assistant invited me?”
“That’s right. Mr. Ellsworth was in a serious car accident. I’m guessing they wanted you to treat him.” Logan confirmed with a nod.
Isla’s lips twisted into a mocking smile. “Reject them outright.”
She hadn’t planned to bother with it, but now that Ronan had crossed her, she wasn’t about to let it slide.
A wealthy clan? She didn’t care. Anyone who sided with Aurora was her enemy.
From the driver’s seat, Logan’s mouth twitched. He couldn’t help but tease. “Isla, holding grudges like this–are you sure that’s the way to go? We’re talking about an offer of a hundred million dollars.”
Logan had to admit, when he first heard that figure, even he had been a little tempted.
That was why he’d bothered to bring it up.

It wasn’t that he needed money, but who would turn down that kind of payday?

Especially considering Isla was still living in a rundown apartment. That fee alone could buy
her a villa.
Isla shot him a withering glare. “Doctors are supposed to be compassionate, sure. But I’m not so magnanimous that I’d treat my enemy.”
Aurora had stolen everything from her–nearly gotten her killed.
And now, the man Aurora had her eye on was secretly backing her up.
If Isla didn’t poison him herself, it was already mercy. Heal him?
Even if it were one billion, she wouldn’t accept it, let alone a hundred million.
At that, Logan’s curiosity spiked. He sneaked a glance at her through the rearview mirror. “Isla, what really happened back in your family?”
Isla turned her face toward the window, her expression unchanged. But the words she spoke sent a chill down Logan’s spine. “That wasn’t a home. It was hell.”

Later, at the apartment, Ronan opened the door and stopped dead. The floor was piled with packages–so many it looked like a storage room.
For a second, he thought he’d walked into the wrong place. But no, this was definitely his
apartment.
Ronan didn’t even order things online. There was only one person these boxes could belong to.
His face darkened as he stepped inside, just as a woman emerged from the bedroom, pulling her hair back with both hands, a hair tie clenched between her teeth.
The summer heat had her in a cropped tank top and shorts.
Her legs were long and shapely, her feet delicate, toenails painted in a playful color.
Ronan had seen plenty of beautiful women before. But this was the first time he’d seen one this flawless.
Even so, his scowl deepened. “Who told you to dump all this crap in my place?”
His home was usually spotless, minimalist. He couldn’t stand seeing piles of stuff cluttering the floor.
