Chapter 6
The next day, I pretended to take the vitamins while secretly saving those pills.
The lab results were shocking. Those pills turned out to be a chronic poison that would cause liver damage.
“This is enough for a conviction,” the lawyer friend Luna introduced told me, “but we need a more complete chain of evidence.”
I decided to deliberately lure them into exposing their true
intentions.
At the company’s quarterly meeting, I announced a completely non–existent “breakthrough technology,” claiming this technology would completely transform the industry landscape. Anthony immediately showed unusual excitement. After the meeting, I saw him hurriedly rush to the front desk to talk with Anna. Then Anna started sending messages frequently.
“They took the bait,” Ryan whispered, “I also found out that Anthony has a small company in Washington, expected to go public next Christmas. What’s your next move?”
“Wait,” I replied calmly, “I want them to voluntarily jump into the trap we’ve set.”

Friday night, the company system showed someone had logged into the server using Anthony’s credentials and downloaded core files.
Meanwhile, security reported seeing Anna enter the R&D lab.
I texted Ryan: [Action.]
When we arrived with security and police, Anna was copying data with a USB drive.
Anna’s face was pale, but she still tried to stay composed: “I’m here to get materials on Mr. Reed’s orders.”
“What’s Mr. Reed’s position? He has so many secretaries, does he need to call you to get materials in the middle of the night?” Luna rolled her eyes, directly pointing out the flaw in Anna’s
words.
“Is that really so?” I took out my phone and crouched in front of Anna to play a recording.
The recording clearly captured Anthony explicitly instructing her to act tonight and promising to take her abroad to peacefully raise the baby after success.
Anna’s legs went weak, and she collapsed to the floor: “How did you know?”

“You think I don’t know about your relationship?” I sneered, “Since high school, you two have been scheming against me. Anthony repeatedly hinted that I should apply to the same. college as him, while you kept mocking me from the sidelines. I was blinded by emotions back then, which is why I let you control me.”
When the police handcuffed Anna, she suddenly lost emotional control and screamed: “Anthony will save me! He loves me!”
“I’m afraid not,” Ryan said.
Then he opened a video.
The video showed Anthony at the airport preparing to board a plane. He was alone, destination Singapore.
Anna’s expression changed from shock to despair, finally twisting into hatred. She shrieked: “Eleanor, you think you’ve won? Everything you have will be taken by us!”
“Shut up,” Luna said coldly.
Then she crumpled up a piece of paper and stuffed it into Anna’s mouth.
Anna went crazy, making terrifying “mmph mmph” laughing sounds.

Meanwhile, Anthony was intercepted by police at the last moment before boarding.

In the interrogation room, he still maintained his usual elegant
composure.
Anthony feigned innocence: “This is a misunderstanding. This was all Anna’s own decision. I was just going on a business trip, completely unaware.”
Watching Anthony’s masterful performance through the one–way glass, I felt disgusted.
In my previous life, I was fooled by this facade for twenty years.
“Look at this,” Ryan handed me a phone, “This is what the police found in the hidden compartment of his suitcase.”
Anthony’s phone contained numerous photos of my daily schedule, with the most recent ones even capturing my apartment and the gym I frequented.
More terrifyingly, there was a folder named “Plan” on the phone, detailing my living habits, medication times, and several “accident” scenarios.
One of them, circled, was exactly that chronic poison.
