Chapter 33 Breaking Point

Alright, I’ll listen to you.”

For a brief moment, Alan’s sharp features softened as he set his glass down

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Come on, spare us the loveydovey act. You’re making us all sick over here.”

The room burst into laughter and teasing

Summer’s face flushed as she leaned against Alan, pressing her cheek into his neck, her entire body nearly draped over him

Then, suddenly, the door to the private room swung open

Claudia stood in the doorway, her eyes fixed on Alansmiling gently for onceas Summer clung to him like she belonged there

Ha

He knew she was coming, and yet he brought Summer along. He never missed a chance to disgust her

The room fell silent

With Timothy absent, everyone here was an expert at keeping a straight face, but their eyes betrayed them. Curiosity, mockery, a readiness for dramaall of it simmered in their gazes as they looked at Claudia

They were here to watch a show, waiting for her humiliation

Claudia’s fingers tightened on the strap of her bag

She knew every face here. Alan’s childhood friends, close to Summer as well. They weren’t as blunt as Timothy in showing their disdain, but over the years they had made their scorn clear enough. After all, Alan’s hatred of her was public knowledge

Of course his friends looked down on her

And now they were all gathered

Summer, draped over Alan’s shoulder, sensed the shift in the room. She turned, her hand still on his broad shoulder, her brows lifting as she saw Claudia. Her grip on Alan tightened deliberately, her arm sliding higher in a subtle show of possession

Alan didn’t push her away. He simply sat there, foxlike eyes fixed calmly on Claudia, his lips curved in the faintest smile

Summer’s confidence soared at his response

Ignoring Claudia, she addressed Nathan, who had escorted her in. Nathan, what are you doing? Can’t you see we’re busy? Get that outsider out of here right now!”

But Nathan didn’t so much as glance at her. His eyes stayed on Alan

Summer wasn’t qualified to order him around

Her words only drew stifled laughter from some of the others

No one treated Claudia like the rightful wife she was

Claudia didn’t bother with them. She locked her gaze on Alan

She didn’t speak. She didn’t have to

She knew he had staged thisinviting her here only to humiliate her in front of everyone

But she didn’t care anymore

She wasn’t going to cause a scene. That would be beneath her

Alan, you know why I’m here. If you don’t want to talk, thenwe’ll just end it here.”

She could endure humiliation for herself, but not when it dragged down her friends, not when it put them at risk

Everything she had achieved without the family that despised her had been because of friends who supported her

If Alan was going to strike at her through them, then she would drag him down with her

She couldn’t match the Moore family’s power, but if she was pushed too far, she could still make Alan bleed..

She just had to be willing to go that far

Her feet shifted slightly, angled toward the door

Alan’s eyes darkened, his cold face hardening

The room went still

He stared at Claudia, standing in her white down coat, eyes blazing with fury and finality. And then he laughed

In just a few days, his wife had grown bold

She dared to threaten him

Summer, impatient, pressed Nathan again. Nathan, what are you waiting for? Throw her out!”

But Nathan didn’t move

He only followed Alan’s orders. Even the Moore family’s rightful wife had no authority over himlet alone Summer, who wasn’t even one of them yet

Summer flushed with humiliation. Clutching Alan’s hand, she fumed, her voice trembling with anger and grievance. Alan, look at him! How can he defy me like this?”

Alan chuckled, patting her soothingly. Don’t worry. I’ll deal with him later.”

Summer wasn’t entirely satisfied with the answer, but she knew Nathan’s status was special and that Alan trusted him deeply. For now, she let it drop, though resentment brewed in her heart. Once she married Alan, she swore she’d put Nathan in his place

Drawing a steadying breath, she pointed at Claudia. But we’re discussing serious matters. How can we allow some irrelevant outsider to stay here?”

She wasn’t wrong

Claudia had never been allowed to meddle in Moore Corp business. Alan had always kept her excluded

Alan stroked her soft brown curls. “That’s why we’ll talk later.”

Summer froze, staring at him blankly. What?”
