Chapter 10

Before she married Johnny, her favorite ritual was to stand right here, gazing at that building where the love of her life was.

But as she looked at the building now, her gaze was nothing but icy. Everything was in the past now, and she was ready to move on.

She went back inside in silence and drew the curtains.

Her lower abdomen still throbbed from time to time, as if silently reminding her of the baby she had

lost.

She took a deep breath and shook her head, attempting to get rid of the wave of bitterness.

No time for sorrow. She had more important things to do.

She turned on her laptop, which hadn’t been used for ages. As the screen lit up, sure enough, she saw a starred unread email in the inbox.

She clicked on it and quickly scanned the contents, her gaze turning icy.

“Proceed as planned,” she typed.

After sending the reply, she closed the laptop.

She moved with swift efficiency, the weak woman from moments ago now completely gone.

Then she took out the pills prescribed by the doctor and swallowed them with water. The bitterness soon spread in her mouth, yet she remained indifferent.

Fatigue washed over her quickly. She collapsed onto the soft, big bed before sinking into deep sleep…

In the evening, at the CEO’s office of the Padilla Group.

Johnny’s assistant, Kennard Snyder, knocked on the door and entered.

He reported, “Mr. Padilla, Mrs. Padilla was discharged from the hospital today. She didn’t go back to Azura Villa and just moved back to her own apartment.”

Johnny was dealing with work. His pen hesitated above the paper when he heard this, though it lasted for merely a second.

“Alright.”

The single word betrayed no emotion.

Then he looked up, his gaze as deep as the sea.

“I don’t care where she lives.”

After all, they had never lived together and only seen each other twice a month, tops. Little did he know he’d break into her apartment time and again in the future.

Kennard didn’t dare to respond, feeling even the air around him freeze.

After a few minutes, Johnny tossed the signed documents aside.

He said, his tone indifferent, as if he was talking about the weather, “Bring the divorce papers to her and have her sign as quickly as possible.”

“Yes, Mr. Padilla,” Kennard said, sighing inwardly. A pang of sympathy struck him for Roxanne-John-

had never cared about her.

Maybe their marriage was indeed coming to an end.

Johnny lowered his head and stared at the flickering numbers on the computer screen expressionlessly, as though their conversation had been about the most insignificant business contract.

However, he gripped the pen so tightly that his knuckles were turning slightly pale. At some point in the future, he’d truly regret being so indifferent now.

Just then, Maryanne stepped inside.

Kennard quickly grabbed the divorce agreement and strode out.

Maryanne was dressed fancily today, looking radiant and charming-the very image of a popular A-list

star.

She was in an excellent mood today. Who would have known? It was actually Roxanne in Ward 302 in Seaville Central Hospital. On top of that, Roxanne was hospitalized due to a miscarriage.

Curving her lips into a complacent smile, she thought, “Lucky me-Roxanne had a miscarriage before I

even had to make a move.

“This is more dramatic than a TV series.

“Without the baby, she could forget about staying as John’s wife.

“Most importantly, he still doesn’t know anything about it.

“It gives me a better chance to play this.”

Johnny looked up at Maryanne, his gaze carrying a trace of gentleness he wasn’t aware of.

“What are you doing here?”

“To have lunch with you, of course. I wanna spend more time with you since I’m kinda free these days. I’m going to audition for a very well-known drama next week.”
