Chapter 13
When she was pursuing her PhD overseas, she had no one to lean on. It was he who took care of her, shielding her from every storm like a real brother.
He was also her partner with whom she shared an unspoken understanding.
They spent countless days and nights in the lab before she finally derived the ground-breaking equation.
But almost right after that, she chose to walk away from her career.
She married a man she had only met a handful of times, agreeing to his three-year pact even at the cost of swallowing her pride.
No one understood her.
Everyone thought she was crazy.
Including Marlon.
White-hot rage almost drove him to flip the table, but eventually, he didn’t. He just glanced at her deeply, made a three-year bet with her, and then went overseas to pursue his career.
And she dropped out of everyone’s sight.
The past three years had been calm and … stifling.
She felt like a bird with broken wings, trapped in a cage.
Now, the cage door was open.
The man who had stood side by side with her was back.
He was set to be her wings and drag her back up to the summit with him, and he wouldn’t take no for an
answer.
But only she knew there were things that had to be done.
Seeing the tears on her face, he didn’t dare brush them away, fearing any contact might shatter his con- trol. Clenching his fists, he said flatly, “Tears don’t suit Ms. R. Go get changed, and I’ll take you to eat. Look at you, all skin and bones-are you trying to be a supermodel or something?”

She nodded and entered the master bedroom.
Fifteen minutes later, they walked downstairs together.

A luxury motorcade was waiting for them downstairs. He opened the car door and got into the same car
as her.
He was addicted to her faint scent. With her by his side, he felt he had the whole world.
Half an hour later, they arrived at Oasis Club.
As the car door opened, she saw a handsome face, lit up by a smile. “Hello, Roxanne.”
When she stepped out, her seniors bowed at her with respect. “Welcome back, Roxanne.”
Surprised, she looked at their familiar faces-she had fought side by side with them. “You guys are all back?”
Edmond Chasey stepped forward and hooked arms with her intimately. “We’ve missed you so much, Roxanne. Thankfully, Marlon was generous for once and let us come back. We can spend some time with you while overseeing the preparations for the summit,”
Virginia Carter stood by her side, linked arms with her, and smiled sweetly, “Totally. With we finally don’t have to work our asses off every day. Marlon is so strict with us.”

around,
“I see you’re no longer that crybaby after all these years, Virginia. Look at you, all grown up and ele- gant.”
Roxanne playfully pinched Virginia’s cheek.
Noticing Marlon’s razor-sharp gaze, Edmond instantly let go of Roxanne’s arm, terrified.
Marlon was so scary!
Marlon turned to Roxanne and said gently, “Let’s go in there.”
The group of people entered the club.
Oasis Club, located in a quiet corner of Seaville’s most hustle and bustle district, was like a world apart.
Here, the harshness of concrete lost all traces. Every element, from the statues to the central fountain, whispered a classical elegance, transforming the entire space into a living canvas.
Every guest here was a prominent figure in Seaville and even the entire country.
Tonight, Oasis Club was elevated by an exclusive gathering.

Surrounded by the others, Roxanne walked through the corridors towards the reserved private room, Tulip Chamber.
She was dressed in a simple yet well-designed white dress, her detached demeanor starkly out of place yet catching everyone’s attention.
With a gentle smile, Marlon walked by her side, half a step behind. Though his manner was intimate, it didn’t cross any boundaries.
