Chapter 2
Johnny had despised Roxanne at first, never touching her. But later, Windsor’s trick forced them into a physical relationship. Since then, Windsor had been pressuring them to have a baby, which was why they had agreed to the twice-a-month couplings.
In their second year of marriage, Johnny’s sight returned. Even now, the undisguised disgust and iciness in his gaze as he looked at her had remained vivid in her mind.
Still, she clung to hope, believing patience and devotion might soften him.
Today, she finally realized-she could never win a heart already promised to someone else.
Just then, her phone rang again, snapping her out of it.
It was Elise Padilla, Johnny’s mother, asking her to go back to the Padilla’s mansion.
After that single line, she hung up the phone.
Roxanne had a bad feeling but didn’t have time to dwell on it. She soon threw herself out of bed.
At 4:00 p.m., she stepped into the Padilla’s mansion.
The Padilla family was the top dog in Seaville, with immense wealth and power. Windsor, the family head, had two sons and two daughters. As the firstborn of his eldest son, Johnny was naturally more valued.
Elise leapt from the sofa the moment Roxanne entered the hall.
She glared at Roxanne, spitting, “You snitched on Johnny, didn’t you? Turns out your quietness is just a mask for your true nature! You snake!”
Looking at Elise’s face twisted with malice, Roxanne said calmly, “Elise, I don’t know what you mean.”
“Windsor is punishing Johnny in the study!”
Elise snapped, then signaled to the housekeeper, who promptly led Roxanne upstairs.
Even before reaching the study door, Roxanne could hear the heated argument inside.
“You brat! How dare you talk back to me! Are you tryna give me a heart attack?”

Windsor was seething with rage.

“Grandpa, what’s the point of maintaining a marriage without love? You promised-if Roxanne couldn’t conceive in three years, I could divorce her and marry someone else. Have you forgotten?”
“A divorce? Dream on! You’re husband and wife-whether you like it or not! Stop disgracing our family with your scandals! Issue a PR statement to clarify your relationship with that Dolton girl, now!”
“How am I supposed to control what spreads online? Grandpa, just ignore the comments.”
“Damn it! I’m so going to teach you a lesson today!”
Soon, a series of crashes rang out.
Roxanne collected herself before knocking on the door.
The door opened, and Windsor was obviously surprised at the sight of her.
“Roxy, come on in.”
“Windsor, please calm down. Nothing matters more than your
health.”
She helped him back inside with a gentle smile.
“What are you waiting for? Apologize to Roxy!” Windsor turned to Johnny, scowling.
Johnny pursed his thin lips, the disdain on his face palpable. In fact, he had leaked the news to the me- dia himself, for their contract marriage was expiring today.
He believed Roxanne was sensible enough to leave on her own accord.
“Windsor, may I speak with Johnny alone?” Roxanne asked softly.
Windsor nodded and walked out.
Once the door closed, Roxanne turned to Johnny. “Let’s get a divorce. I’ll leave so you can be with the one you love.”
Johnny’s eyes flickered with surprise, as if he was wondering what had gotten into her.
He had thought she’d make a scene or at least have Windsor back her up. But… she actually asked for a divorce?
She’d step down just like that? For real?
Roxanne added, “We can finalize it first. You can tell Windsor when the time is right.”
After a few seconds of silence, Johnny said, “I’ll compensate you. What do you want?”
“Nothing but a clean break. Here’s the divorce agreement I drafted,” she replied flatly, took the papers out of her bag, and placed them on the desk, not looking hesitant or sad at all.
