Johnny snorted, his gaze on her icy, “Well, as a reward for being so reasonable, I’ll give you enough money for you to lead a life of luxury. I’ll have my lawyers draw up proper papers. Come to my of- fice tomorrow morning and sign them.”
In other words, he called the shots on the terms, and she didn’t have a say.
“Alright. I’ll be there.” She glanced at him deadpan before walking out of the study.
For her, a clean break was the last shred of dignity left in this farce of a marriage.
That evening, she stayed for dinner and gave Windsor a hug before leaving.
As she stepped outside, rain began to fall, casting the world into a curtain of gloom.
A sharp pain in her lower abdomen shot through her after she took a few steps, and then warm blood trickled down her thigh.
Roxanne was stunned. Was she on her period? How come?
She quickly started the car. As she drove halfway down the mountain, it hurt so much that cold sweat was streaming down her face.
The pain was nearly unbearable.
She pulled over and called Chloe. “Chloe, are you back? Could you come … ]
“Where are you, Roxy? What happened?” Chloe asked.
“I’m on the mountain road near the Padilla’s mansion…”
Soon, the wail of an ambulance tore through the silence of the night.
It was 1:00 a.m. when Roxanne was taken to the hospital,
me up?”
The doctor told her she had had a miscarriage. Her baby she never knew had been growing inside her for six weeks.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she lay in bed.
She didn’t even get to see her baby.

Seething with rage, Chloe spat, “That jerk! Didn’t he know you were pregnant? What was he thinking, having you brought to Missanne Garden and putting you through that?”
Roxanne’s periods had always been irregular, and she knew nothing about the pregnancy.
Chances were, the child was conceived last month. She wasn’t taken to Missanne Garden then.
Johnny had been on a business trip in Estiuria back then. She had been taken there and spent three days with him.
He had warned her they had used up this month’s quota.
So, she was pretty surprised when she saw the housekeeper showing up on time this month.
Just then, a female doctor knocked on the door and entered the ward with a report in hand.
“How could you be so careless, taking the pill while knowing you were pregnant? We could have kept this baby.”
The pill?
Both Roxanne and Chloe were dumbfounded.
They knew-she and Johnny never used protection. So, the pill…
Veins pulsed at Chloe’s temples.
“What a bastard! He had been feeding you contraceptives for that bitch Maryanne! He could have told you he didn’t want kids. How could he be so cruel?”
Roxanne’s heart ached so much that she could hardly breathe.
Was it really Johnny?
He always had the servants make her soup after every intimacy. Were the pills in it?
So… Last month, he didn’t have the chance to slip her the pill in Estiuria, and that was why he had her taken to Missanne Garden this month?
All of a sudden, she felt as if all strength was drained from her body,
“This is completely outrageous. Wait here. I’m going to the Padilla’s mansion to make things for you!”
Trembling with anger, Chloe grabbed her phone and was about to leave.
“Chloe…” Roxanne said, her voice utterly hoarse. “Don’t.”
“Roxy!” Chloe turned around and looked at her in great disbelief. “He killed your baby! Don’t tell me you’re gonna let this slide!”
Roxanne slowly closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened her eyes again, there was nothing but terrifying hatred and resolution.
“I’ve decided to divorce him. From now on, I want absolutely nothing to do with him.”
