Chapter38
Her typing speed surprised him, but over thirty elite hackers were taking turns attacking her system.
Outnumbered, she struggled to keep up.
[Firewall Layer Two breached!]
[Core data access attempted!]
Damn.
Her heart sank.
They were too fast to block.
Her system would be compromised soon.
Suddenly, two network access requests popped up-
Aaron and Jeffrey!
Lisa froze, knowing they came to help.
But accepting would expose her identity as The N Pioneer through their voices.
Alexander would see right through her. Yet facing dozens of top hackers alone was impossible.
As she hesitated, a large hand landed on her shoulder.
“I’ll handle it!”
Alexander’s voice cut through the chaos, low and unshakable.
He appeared behind her without warning, rolling up his shirt sleeves to reveal corded forearms.
Lisa didn’t even have time to wonder how he knew about this–her body had already reacted instine- tively.
She shifted sideways to make space.
Alexander sat down, his gaze calmly sweeping across the chaotic battle unfolding on the screen.

“Key.”
His command was clipped.
Lisa swiftly scribbled a string of complex characters on a sticky note and handed it to him.
“02090630CNLFYAMS!”
Alexander barely glanced at it before his fingers flew across the keyboard.
This wasn’t typing.
It was… a blur of motion!
Faster than the eye could follow, keystrokes drummed like torrential rain against the keys.
Lines of code cascaded down the screen as commands executed with surgical precision.
Instead of patching Lisa’s firewall, he wrote an entirely new counterattack program from scratch.
Tracking.
Locating.
Reverse infiltration.
Code scrolled at blinding speed. The once–aggressive attack vectors now recoiled like prey cornered by a predator.
Severed. Purged. Devoured!
Five minutes later, the alarm fell silent.
The attackers were clearly stunned, their assault collapsing into disorganized retreat.
Alexander’s eyes remained icy, fingers never pausing. He booted every intruder out, then traced their digital footprints. Forced offline notifications flashed across the monitor.
One by one, the hostile IP addresses grayed out and vanished.
Snuffed out by an invisible hand.
But Alexander wasn’t finished.
His keystrokes birthed another new program.

“Done!”
He deployed it into the system with a final tap.
A pale blue shield icon materialized on Lisa’s desktop.
“Crypto–shield.”
He leaned back slightly. “They won’t find it so easy next time.”
Lisa stared at the shield, then at the man beside her. Her pulse still raced.
Without his help today… the consequences didn’t bear thinking about.
Once again, he’d been her hero.
That untouchable distance she’d always felt? Gone. He was right here.
“Thanks.”
Her voice came out raspy, tension still clinging to her throat.
Her phone buzzed immediately.
Aaron’s name flashed on the screen.
Lisa picked it up and walked to the window.
“Yeah?”
“Lisa?
What happened?
Why aren’t you on the shared feed?”
Aaron’s voice crackled with urgency.
“All good now.”
Lisa kept her tone level, watching Alexander’s broad back. “Handled!
Data’s intact. I’ll migrate everything tomorrow.”

Alexander stood now, studying her monitor.
His focus seemed locked on the name of an encrypted folder.
It seems the contents inside were materials related to both her and Aaron, likely concerning the Global.
“What treasures are you hiding in this computer?”
He spoke softly, yet with an undercurrent of pressure. “To attract so many experts trying to steal it?”
Lisa remained silent for a moment before replying quietly:
“Alexander, thank you for helping me today.
But everyone has their secrets, right?”
Her tone was calm, carrying a distant politeness.
“I can only tell you this: nothing here is illegal, criminal, or harmful to anyone. You have my word.”
Alexander studied her for several seconds but didn’t press further.
“Since I helped you, shouldn’t you repay the favor?”
Lisa’s heart skipped, forcing down her suspicion.
“Fine!
What do you want?”
Alexander stepped closer, desire flickering in his eyes as he reached to touch her face.
She instinctively retreated.
His gaze darkened, emotions churning beneath the surface.
“You hate my touch that much?”
Mockery laced his voice, tinged with barely concealed hurt, “You used to enjoy it.”
Visions of their intimate past flashed through his mind.
Truth was, his body craved her more than his heart did.
Lisa whirled around, a frost–edged smile curling her lips.

“Alexander, your memory’s impressive–still clinging to ‘the past.‘
Get this straight: what exactly are we now?”
“What are we?”
Alexander scoffed. “Lisa, until those divorce papers are signed, you’re still my wife!
You still have a duty as my wife!”
His hand darted out again, aiming to brush her cheek–just teasing on a whim.
Lisa jerked away, eyes blazing with defense.
“Alexander, why cling? Can’t we part ways amicably?”
Seeing her disgusted expression, he suddenly laughed.
“Lisa!”
He tipped her chin up, staring intently. “Do you really not want this?”
Three years, and she’d never refused him before.
