Soon, she passed out.
Meanwhile, in the CEO’s office of the Padilla Group.
Johnny furrowed his brows tightly as he stared at his phone screen.
It was already 10:00 a.m., but he still couldn’t reach Roxanne.
She had turned her phone off.
Where was she?
They had agreed to meet this morning to sign the divorce papers. Was she having second thoughts?
An inexplicable anger overwhelmed him as he irritably tossed his phone onto the desk.
For some reason, he had been restless early in the morning, feeling that something bad was about to happen.
Was it Roxanne?
What could possibly happen to her?
It was probably another one of her tricks, trying to make him feel sorry for her or prolong the divorce.
He wondered-what stunt she’d pull this time.
Outside the OR, time seemed to stretch into eternity.
Chloe paced back and forth anxiously, her gaze falling upon the closed OR door from time to time.
Finally, it opened.
Roxanne was wheeled out. She’d fallen unconscious, the tear stains on her cheeks and faint teeth marks on her pale lips still visible.
“Roxy!” Chloe strode forward at once.
The doctor took off her mask, her expression still grim. “The surgery went well, but the patient’s too weak. Make sure she gets proper rest, or … the chances of her getting pregnant again are slim.”

Chloe’s heart sank at once. As she looked at the unconscious Roxanne, tears welled up in her eyes again.
Roxanne was perfect. It was so unfair that her life was ruined by that jerk Johnny!
It was already the afternoon when Roxanne came around.
Belle Sarratt, Chloe’s mother, sat by the bedside with warm soup in her hand.
“You’re awake, Roxy. Eat the soup while it’s still warm. You need nutrition,” Belle said, her heart breaking at the sight of Roxanne’s pale face.
“Thanks, Belle,” Roxanne smiled weakly, struggling to sit up.
“Don’t. I’ll feed you.” Belle quickly stopped her, scooped a spoon of soup, blew on it to cool it down carefully, and fed it to Roxanne.
The distress in her eyes as they landed on Roxanne was palpable. It pained her to think how desperate Roxanne must have been, losing the baby.
Back then, Roxanne was homeless. Chloe, her classmate, brought her home, and the Sarratt family sup- ported her through her studies.
She was more like a daughter to Belle.
She sipped the soup, feeling warm physically, but her eyes reddened uncontrollably.
Chloe was on the phone not far away. She deliberately lowered her voice, but her tone was still unmis- takably intense.
“Timothy, I’m warning you! If you stay friends with that scumbag Johnny, we’re done! Forget about the engagement! I’ll never see you again!”
She hung up the phone right after saying this, her chest heaving in anger.
Roxanne looked at her. “Chloe, don’t let me…’
་་
“This has nothing to do with you,” Chloe interrupted her. “I can’t believe how stupid Timothy is! After what Johnny did to you, how could he still be friends with that jerk? Is he a fool or what? Exactly whose side is he on?”
What Chloe and Timothy had was an arranged marriage, and they had been engaged since eighteen.
Pampered by her family, Chloe had always been willful, which gave Timothy a big headache.
Meanwhile, in the private room of the most upscale nightclub in Seaville.
A melody of elegant music drifted through the room, mingling with the scent of expensive wine and perfume.
Holding his phone, Timothy was confused.
He glanced at Johnny, saying innocently, “What’s gotten into Chloe this time? She said if I hang out with you again, she’ll break up with me.”
With his slender fingers, Johnny gently swirled the amber liquid in his glass. Hearing this, he arched an eyebrow slightly and said nothing.
