“Alright, we’re all friends here. Don’t just stand around, let’s sit and eat.”
The atmosphere eased slightly.
Alexander was seated on the professor’s other side, separated from Lisa by one person.
Soon, food and drinks were served, warming up the gathering.
As host, Aaron raised his glass first.
“Today we’re honored to have the professor. Everyone here is elite talent from Lewis Group.”
“Let’s raise our glasses to welcome our teacher!”
Everyone raised their glasses in response.
Before Lisa sat a glass of orange juice–she didn’t touch the alcohol.
After the toast, she leaned toward the professor, whispering what sounded like academic discussion.
Alexander couldn’t catch the details, only fragments of botanical terms.
Then the professor seemed to remember something. Carefully, he pulled a special–wrapped item from his cloth bag, handing it to Lisa.
“The old master insisted I deliver this to you personally!”
Lisa took it, opened the wrapping, and her eyes instantly lit up with speechless delight.
The Culprit Behind the Drugging Is Found
Inside the cultivation box lay a peculiar–looking plant seedling, its leaves displaying an unusual pale purple hue.
“He actually found it?”
“Fantastic!”
She cradled the object as if it were a priceless treasure, her voice trembling with excitement.

Alexander watched the scene, a bitter taste rising in his throat.
In three years of marriage to Lisa, he’d never seen her so vibrantly alive.
Her complete trust and reliance on the professor stung his eyes.
His gaze shifted across the table.

Aaron naturally picked up a Garlic Butter Shrimp, meticulously peeled it, and placed it in Lisa’s bowl.
Without looking up, Lisa picked it up and ate it–a fluid motion suggesting long–established habit.
Aaron then used the serving spoon to add more of her favorite dishes to her plate.
Periodically, he refilled her empty juice glass.
Every gesture radiated familiarity and intimacy.
Alexander’s chest tightened as if stuffed with a ball of fire, burning his insides raw.
That was his wife.
Why should another man fuss over her with such meticulous care?
He raised his wine glass toward Aaron, deliberately pitching his voice higher.
“How considerate of you, Aaron.”
“Quite attentive to another man’s wife.”
The table fell silent instantly.
All movement ceased.
Aaron froze, juice glass suspended mid–air, his gaze turning icy as it locked onto Alexander.
Lísa seemed oblivious, still bent over the plant sample from the professor.
She scribbled notes on a paper, utterly absorbed.
Virginia, seated beside Aaron, couldn’t stomach it. She stood, beaming, a full glass of red wine in hand.
“Alexander, I saw yesterday’s headlines.”
“Heard you and the movie queen are making it official soon?”
“Congratulations!”

“I’m a huge fan of hers. Brilliant actress, so… insightful. Especially her mastery of tea art–rich and re-
fined.”
Her words dripped faux praise while skewering Vivian-“mastery of tea art” landing like a slap.
Alexander’s expression darkened further.
Ignoring him, Virginia downed her wine in one gulp.
“My glass is empty. Take your time, Alexander.”
Another young man–Aaron’s junior, Jeffrey–seized the moment, approaching with his own glass.
“Alexander, we met once before. I’m Jeffrey.”
“A toast. Lewis Group’s new eye drops worked wonders for my senior sister’s vision.”
“Since you’re our honored guest, I’ll send you some. Help yourself to more food.”
The subtext screamed: Only blindness could explain her marrying you.
Alexander clenched his jaw, clinked glasses with Jeffrey, and drained his wine.
“Appreciated.”
His voice was steel.
Throughout the luncheon, Lisa never once glanced at Alexander.
Nor did she speak a word to him.
Her entire focus remained fixed on the professor and that plant sample, sparing only occasional replies for Aaron.
Alexander sat there like an outsider, utterly ignored.
This stung worse than any argument, fueling both anger and an indescribable panic.
He downed glass after glass of liquor in brooding silence,
Finally, Lisa stood up, seemingly heading to the restroom. She disliked staying in the VIP Lounge and welcomed the chance to step outside.
Alexander immediately set down his glass and rose to follow.
His steps were unsteady, the alcohol rising in his system, but his mind remained clear.

The corridor was dimly lit.
Alexander caught up in a few strides and seized her wrist.
Her wrist felt slender and cool.
Lisa struggled briefly but couldn’t break free.
Frowning, she turned to look at him.
“Alexander, what are you doing?”
He stared at her, his breath hot with liquor and anger against her face.
“Stay away from Aaron. He’s no good.”
Lisa snorted with derision, as if hearing a joke.
“Whether he’s good or not is none of your business.”
“Who I befriend isn’t for you to control, Mr. Ford.”
“Don’t forget what you promised me.”
Alexander tightened his grip, almost crushing her delicate bones.
Lisa paled, recalling the words she’d thrown at him that night.
