Chapter57
He took two steps, then suddenly turned back. “Have someone investigate her childhood. I want every detail.”
“Okay!”
The door closed, and Andrew finally let out a sigh of relief.
It was rare for him to show concern for his wife.
Could their relationship be turning around?
That Vivian was still causing trouble–what a headache!
But his wife’s trump card was brilliant: slamming that bright red marriage license in everyone’s face.
It instantly shut those brainless fans up. This time, Vivian got crushed into the mud.
Though the Ford Family was in crisis too, Alexander would never prioritize protecting her.
At noon, Alexander returned to the company.
In the top–floor office of Ford Enterprises, the atmosphere was so tense you could wring water from it.
Beyond the floor–to–ceiling windows, the city bustled as usual, but inside the office, the air was icy.
“Limit down!
A full ten billion!
Tell me how do we clean up this mess?”
Victor’s cane thudded heavily against the expensive floor, the dull thumps making hearts tremble.
His chest heaved violently as his bony finger jabbed at the glaring stock chart on the desk.
Alexander stood by the window, his back straight yet radiating an indescribable desolation.
He didn’t turn around, just watched the traffic streaming below.

“Call a press conference immediately.”
Victor’s voice was hoarse, leaving no room for argument. “Announce Lisa’s identity as the Ford family’s eldest granddaughter–in–law. That news alone will pull the stock price back!”
Alexander whirled around, his handsome face expressionless except for a flicker of struggle deep in his
eyes.
“Grandfather, this is too cruel to Vivian. If I really do this, it would be adding insult to injury.”
His voice was low, weary.
“Cruel?”
Victor snorted, cane striking the floor again.
“Compared to the Ford Family’s ten–billion–dollar loss? To our decades of reputation? What does one woman’s image matter?”
“Have you forgotten? When you went blind after that car crash, she fled abroad. A woman like that doesn’t deserve the Ford name.”
“This has nothing to do with her. I’m the one who indulged her all along. I just wanted… to give her proper status!”
Alexander raised his voice, a vein throbbing at his temple.
“Nothing to do with her?
Do you hear how people are cursing her out there?
Calling her a homewrecker!
Saying the Ford Family is a cesspool!
And you still want… to give her status?”
Victor’s beard bristled with rage. “What kind of love potion did she feed you?
To make you… this addicted?
You unfilial brat.”
He couldn’t fathom why Alexander failed to cherish a wife as wonderful as Lisa.
Before, he’d turned a blind eye.

But now the fire was licking at their heels–he couldn’t stay passive any longer.
“Grandfather, she saved my life!
I can’t just…”
Alexander finally blurted out the words he’d buried for
years.
Victor: “……”

He reined in his temper, silent for several seconds before speaking slowly.
“What exactly happened?”
Alexander lit a cigarette, memories churning in his mind.
Four years ago, he graduated early and prepared to return home. His classmates threw him a celebratory send–off.
The weather was perfect that day. A dozen close friends boarded a yacht and sailed out to sea.
Everything went smoothly at first. But as they headed back, dark clouds suddenly gathered, and fierce winds began to howl.
Waves churned violently as rain poured down. Everyone rushed toward the cabin. Alexander was about to follow.
Suddenly, something struck him. A numbing sensation spread through his body before he plunged into the sea.
Heavy rain lashed the deck. His classmates took shelter, completely unaware someone was missing.
He struggled helplessly in the water before sinking deeper and deeper.
The sensation of suffocation closed in–cold, despair, terror… The light above faded rapidly.
Just as his eyes shut, he glimpsed a girl swimming desperately toward him…
When he opened his eyes again, Vivian’s beautiful face filled his vision.
Soaked to the bone, her wet hair dripped onto his cheeks!
Two other yachts had been nearby. He’d been rescued onto Vivian’s vessel.
Victor listened to the account, still shaken by the close call.

Had it not been for Vivian, he might have lost his only grandson.
The Boss Cried for You
“Since… she did you a favor, repay her another way.
She wants to be a star? Fund her, give her money, give her resources!”
“But she can never have the status!”
Victor softened his tone slightly and continued,
“Don’t forget how Lisa cared for you that first year of marriage. Without her, your eyes wouldn’t have healed so fast.”
He hoped the boy would remember that debt–weak as it was, it remained a marital bond.
Alexander’s gaze turned icy.
He’d recovered thanks to the special medicine his Fruycan mentor found. What did Lisa have to do with it?
