Chapter81
“Why cut off all signals to the manor?
You think this crummy manor can actually hold me?
!”
Seeing her flustered state, Alexander actually seemed relieved.
“Thought something catastrophic had happened.”
His tone betrayed no emotion.
“The manor’s network is robust, even linked to satellites.”
He pointed toward the mist–shrouded mountaintop in the distance.
“See those three large umbrella–like satellite dishes?
That’s the Ford family’s private satellite ground station.”
Lisa followed his gaze, faintly discerning three massive white disc- shaped structures.
Lisa raised her voice, “Then why couldn’t I call Matthew!
I asked the butler!
He said all external signals are blocked!
You did this!

You planned it, didn’t you?!”
Her eyes locked onto him, demanding an explanation.
Alexander approached her, slowing his speech as he patiently clarified:
“It’s temporary, purely for your safety.”
“I won’t risk anyone tracking your location, especially while those kidnappers remain at large.”
He deliberately stressed “kidnappers still loose” rather than mentioning any drowning.
Lisa’s lips parted slightly, as if recalling something.
Noting her reaction, Alexander added:
“Those kidnappers panicked while fleeing, even tossed the camera into the river.”
“It was later recovered, but the equipment and data were completely destroyed. Unrecoverable.”
Hearing this, Lisa’s tension eased slightly.
She’d truly feared what that camera might reveal.
If its contents leaked… it’d be mortifying.
Alexander offered his phone, “Use mine to call Matthew. Reassure her.”

Lisa eyed the latest–model device, thinking: His phone gets special privileges? Privileged class?
Without hesitation, she took it and swiftly dialed Matthew.
The call connected instantly.
“Hey Matthew, it’s me.”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
“Just some minor scrapes on my arm and ankle escaping. They’ll heal in days.”
“Mmhm, relax.
I’m somewhere very safe now. I’ll find you once things settle.”
She kept her tone light and natural.
Hanging up, she exhaled heavily.
That girl must’ve been frantic with worry yesterday–sounded ready to report me missing.
She handed the phone back to Alexander.
Alexander took it and casually asked, “Who else do you want to call?
Anyone’s fine.”
Lisa shook her head. “No need.”
After a pause, she added, “But I need internet access. I have work

matters to handle.”
Alexander replied coldly, “You can use the study computer. Just don’t
touch anything you shouldn’t.”
His tone carried a warning.
Soon, the butler came to announce dinner was ready.
“Let’s eat!”
Alexander said to her.
Lisa hopped slowly toward the doorway.
Alexander frowned, strode forward, and effortlessly scooped her up into his arms.
He moved as if she weighed nothing.
“Ah!
What are you doing!”
Lisa gasped, instinctively struggling against him.
“Put me down!
I can walk myself!”
Her squirming annoyed yet amused Alexander.
“Walk?

You call that hopping!”
He looked down at the restless woman in his arms.
“Let you hop a few more times, and your good foot will twist too. Then you won’t need crutches–straight to a wheelchair!”
Furious, Lisa weakly thumped his chest.
“Alexander!
How many times must I tell you!
Stop carrying me around!”
She hated this physical closeness, deliberately keeping distance between them.
Alexander’s icy voice bore down,
“Lisa, if you weren’t injured and hadn’t lost my child, do you think I’d let you recuperate here?”
He paused, then added, “Don’t get any foolish ideas. You know exactly what we are.”
A deliberate reminder of the signed Divorce Agreement.
Lisa’s temper flared.
“Alexander, put me down. Have someone take me back to my apartment now.
I don’t need protection from the mighty CEO. I can’t afford your fees.”

Alexander pretended to drop her, making her instinctively cling to his
neck.
“Enough. Shut your mouth, or next time I really will drop you!”
Lisa cursed him a hundred times in her head.
Holding her firmly, he carried her steadily downstairs.
The long dining table was set with delicate dishes:
Steamed Sea Bass with Ginger, Blanched Greens with Garlic, Chicken
and Mushroom Sauté, Lotus Root and Pork Rib Soup… All light, nutritious meals clearly prepared for her condition.
The butler stood quietly nearby.
Alexander carefully seated her near the table, picked up his eating utensils, and began eating.
When she didn’t move, his cold voice cut through: “Is your right hand injured too?
Shall I feed you?”
“Ah, no need!”
Lisa hastily grabbed her utensils.
But she had little appetite, pushing food around her bowl.
Across the table, Alexander ate sparingly–the atmosphere was… awkward.

They barely knew each other (except in bed), having never shared daily life.
He wondered if he should serve her food.
Not long after, the butler approached with a dark, lacquered bowl.
Inside was thick Herbal Medicine, emitting an indescribably bitter
odor.
“Miss Lisa, your medicine is ready. It’s at the perfect temperature. The doctor insisted it must be taken with food.”
He carefully placed it beside her.
Alexander lifted his eyelids, his voice devoid of warmth.
