Lisa paused for seconds before replying: Her injured foot restricted movement, but she’d attend the summit punctually.
Reading this, Aaron’s handsome face darkened.
He walked to the window, lighting a cigarette while wrestling with one question—
Was Alexander forcing her to stay? Or did she remain willingly?
Alexander’s words echoed: Helping her bathe.
Jealousy clawed at Aaron’s chest, stealing his breath.
Knock–knock–knock!
Jeffrey entered, noting his gloom. “Found her?”
Aaron exhaled smoke. “She’s fine. She’ll be at the summit. Boost security and recheck the guest list.”
“Understood.”
“Our team tracked Pamela Thompson entering the country today.”
The name visibly jolted Aaron. He recalled Pamela was a pervert… but wouldn’t dare target The N Pioneer.
Why enter now?

Jeffrey handed him a file. “Seems she’s searching for someone. Heard her former ward–turned–mistress fled.”
Aaron opened it—a photo of a sharp–featured little girl stared back.
“Then help her search thoroughly.”
Night deepened, silence enveloping Manor Estate. Alexander hadn’t returned for dinner.
Past ten, tires crunched on gravel.
Alexander was home.
He tossed his suit jacket onto the sofa, footsteps unsteady, reeking of alcohol.
Loosening his tie, he headed upstairs.
Outside Lisa’s room, crashing sounds erupted-
Sudden. Jarring.
Alexander halted. The alcohol haze lifted slightly.
Frowning, he knocked.
“Lisa?”
No answer.
“Lisa! You in there?”

Still nothing.
As he turned to leave, a woman’s scream pierced the air-
Sharp. Brief. Terrified.
Alexander’s heart lurched. Without thought, he wrenched the
doorknob open.
“Lisa!”
The room stood empty, only the bedside lamp glowing.
Nobody.
His gaze swept the messy bed, locking onto the shut bathroom door.
The sound came from there.
He strode over, hand on the knob-
Hearing faint gasps inside.
Shoving the door open, he froze.
His pupils constricted sharply.
Water gleamed on the tiles. A pale figure curled on the floor, raven hair plastered against cheeks and shoulders–utterly disheveled.
Lisa hadn’t expected his intrusion.
Fresh from her bath, she’d slipped and fallen hard.

Grimacing in pain, she heard the door swing open as Alexander’s stern face appeared in the doorway.
Their eyes locked.
The air froze.
Lisa hastily covered her chest, shouting: “Get out!”
Alexander reacted instantly. He swept forward, yanked the bathrobe hanging nearby, and swiftly wrapped it around her–a bit roughly- covering that dazzling fair skin.
In the next heartbeat, he bent down, slid one arm beneath her knees and the other behind her back, lifting her horizontally.
His movements flowed seamlessly, without a trace of hesitation.
Caught off guard, Lisa gasped and instinctively threw her arms around his neck.
Her cool skin pressed against his scorching chest.
Through the thin fabric of his shirt, she felt the distinct thump–thump- thump of his heartbeat against her ear.
Strong. Relentless. Pounding against her eardrums.
Her own heart leapt into her throat!
I’m done for!
Damn!

How did I fall?
After living over twenty years. I’ve never been this embarrassed, and of course he had to witness it!
Alexander gently placed her on the large bed in the bedroom.
The strong scent of alcohol on him mixed with the shower gel’s freshness, creating a strange yet dangerous aura that hung between them.
Lisa quickly tightened her towel, wrapping herself tighter, wishing she could vanish into thin air.
Though they were married and had shared more intimate moments before,
those were always under specific circumstances, driven by ulterior motives.
He’d never bathed her, and they lacked the tender closeness ordinary couples shared.
Now, this sudden raw exposure plunged them into unprecedented awkwardness.
Alexander stood by the bed, looking down at her.
“You, get out. I’m fine!”
Lisa said coldly.
He watched her flushed cheeks, damp hair, and the curves faintly visible beneath the towel.

His Adam’s apple moved involuntarily.
After a long pause, he spoke abruptly, his voice icy. “Lisa, are you seducing me?”
The flat tone felt like a bucket of ice water dumped over Lisa’s head.
She snapped her gaze up, disbelief replacing her earlier shame and embarrassment with fury.
“Alexander!”
Her voice trembled with rage.
“Are you blind?
Didn’t you see me fall?”
Is something wrong with his brain?
She nearly broke her bones just now, and he accused her of seduction?
Where’s the justice in this world!
Alexander’s face stayed blank, but his eyes pinned her in place.
“Not blind.”
He stated calmly, his tone firm. “Saw everything clearly.”
That bathroom scene–dazzlingly pale, utterly jarring–had even stirred
a reaction in him.
He could still recall her skin’s cool smoothness.

That’s why it felt more like a calculated act.
Lisa choked on his “saw everything clearly,” speechless.
This man was beyond unreasonable!
What did that look mean?
Did he think she staged this fall just to put on a show?
Shaking with anger, she clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms, hissing through gritted teeth:
“Get out!”
