chapter51
“Are you a dog? Why did you bite me?”
“Get out of this room right now! Or next time, it won’t be as simple as a bite.”
***
Just before the door was about to open, Joaquin strode quickly into his own bedroom.
Through the slightly open crack in the door, he saw Jericho being thrown out of the room by Romina. The man was still fully dressed, his gaze fixed on the back of his hand.
From Joaquin’s angle, he could clearly see a deep bite mark on the back of Jericho’s hand.
Seeing this, the corners of Joaquin’s lips couldn’t help but curl up slightly.
Things were indeed getting more and more interesting.
The man closed the door and headed straight for the bathroom.
Outside the window, the moonlight filtered through the mottled shadows of the trees, falling onto the floor.
Romina gazed at the swaying shadows on the floor, her thoughts drifting far away.
She didn’t know how much time had passed before she finally got up from the bed. Looking at the slightly messy sheets, a mocking smile

curled at her lips.
If she hadn’t bitten him just now, perhaps Jericho really would have done something to her.
After getting up, she went to the bathroom to take a shower.
She rarely stayed overnight at the Bowman’s mansion, so she hadn’t prepared any clothes. There was only a plain white bathrobe for her to
wear.
By the time she finished washing up, it was already past ten o’clock.
Feeling extremely thirsty and in a foul mood, and not wanting to drink plain water, she got up and went downstairs to get some alcohol.
At this hour, everyone in the Bowman family had already gone to bed. The living room was empty.
Not wanting to disturb the servants on the first floor, Romina didn’t turn on the lights and tiptoed into the kitchen.
There was beer in the fridge–the same brand she used to love years
ago.
She reached in and grabbed two bottles. Just as she closed one side of the fridge door and was about to shut the other, she met a pair of deep, shadowy eyes.
Startled, Romina stumbled back several steps. Maybe the floor was slippery, but she fell backward, and the beer slipped from her hand.
A pair of large hands wrapped around her slender waist.
The man’s other hand caught the falling beer.
Romina lifted her eyes. By the light from the half–open fridge door, she

finally saw the man’s face clearly.
Joaquin was wearing a black bathrobe, looking less aloof and distant than usual, and a rare softness appeared in his demeanor.
Those cool, clear eyes were quietly watching her.
Romina had no idea that, perhaps because of her leaning–back posture, the already loosely tied belt of her bathrobe had come even looser.
From Joaquin’s angle, he could clearly see the soft curves that were almost exposed.
That deep cleavage instantly caught the man’s gaze.
Romina naturally noticed his gaze, but she didn’t hurry to get up. Instead, she smiled faintly and said, “Mr. Bowman…..”
Joaquin’s brows furrowed slightly. When he met her beautiful face, he was momentarily dazed.
Once he came to his senses, he quickly let her go.
“It’s late and you came down without turning on the lights. I thought there was a burglar in the house.”
“I didn’t want to disturb anyone’s rest, so I didn’t turn on the lights.”
Romina spoke calmly, closed the fridge door, and then casually opened the beer bottle in her hand.
Joaquin handed her the beer in his palm. “Here, take it.”
In the dim light, Romina glanced down at the beer in his hand, then looked up to meet his gaze.
She didn’t take it. Instead, she raised her own beer bottle and gently

clinked it against his.
“Clink-”
The two beer bottles made a crisp sound as they touched.
She took a sip, then smiled faintly. “Thanks for earlier, Mr. Bowman.”
The two exchanged a glance in the dimness. Before he could respond, Romina strode away quickly.
She had no idea that, at that moment, the man’s lips in the darkness were slowly curling upward.
Romina had always had a low tolerance for alcohol. Just one can of beer was enough to give her a good night’s sleep.
She pulled up a chair, leaned against the balcony, and gazed into the night, lost in thought.
The beer in her hand gradually emptied.
Her eyes grew more and more unfocused, but in her daze, she saw a tall figure leaning on the balcony next door.
The man spoke slowly, “Are you drunk?”
“I’m not drunk!”
Romina braced her hands on the edge of the chair and stood up quickly.
The man saw her staggering toward him, and his brows furrowed slightly.
