Evelyn looked at Teresa, a bit puzzled. She asked, “Why do you want Jonathan to come over?”
Teresa said, “Didn’t we say we needed to talk about the kids? Now that Lucas is back, I will ask Fiona to come over, too. It’s a good chance for all of us to have dinner together.
“I’ll order a few more dishes so you don’t have to cook. Let’s just eat and talk things over.” With that, Teresa went to make the call.
Teresa called Jonathan, and Jonathan picked up right away.
“Lucas is back today, and my mom’s making ravioli. Why don’t you and Fiona come over for dinner? Didn’t we say we needed to talk about the kids?” Teresa said.
Jonathan was silent for a few seconds before replying, “Okay, I’ll order a few more dishes.”
“No need, I’ve already ordered six,” Teresa said.
“Then I’ll order six more from Fores Restaurant. You like their food, right? Fiona and I will be over soon, just the two of us,” Jonathan said.
“Alright,” Teresa replied and then hung up the phone.
She took a deep breath and thought, ‘Maybe it’s better this way–at least we can talk things out face to face, and I can give him back the car keys while I’m at it.
Teresa called the restaurant to order some dishes, then pushed the sofa aside to make some space for everyone to eat.
With Fiona coming over, Teresa rolled up her sleeves and kept herself busy cleaning up the house, not stopping for a moment.
Michael was helping Teresa tidy up the house. “Mom, how come you’re working so hard today?” he asked.
“Well, Fiona is coming over. If she saw the house all messy, she’d laugh at us,” Teresa replied.
Teresa cared a lot about appearances, so she made sure the house was spotless. She even put out a fruit platter.
Lucas headed downstairs to pick up the food they’d ordered from the restaurant.
Michael had even finished tidying up his own room. He said, “All done, Mom. Everything’s spotless. Should we put up some balloons to welcome Fiona?”

“No need for that, just keeping the house clean is enough,” Teresa replied as she started brewing some coffee. There were different types of coffee beans in the fridge, but she wasn’t sure which one Fiona would prefer.
Just then, Felix woke up and started crying, so Teresa went to the room to comfort him.
As the sky slowly darkened and the lights in the neighborhood flickered on, Michael heard a car horn outside. He leaned against the windowsill and shouted, “They’re here. Mr. Lime is here.”
He was so giddy with excitement, one’d have thought he’d spotted a wedding procession coming to pick up the bride.
Teresa had just managed to get Felix back to sleep, changed his diaper, and washed her hands when she heard the commotion downstairs and hurried down.
Spotting the familiar Maybach, Teresa strode over to Fiona as she got out of the car. She said, “Fiona, you’re here. Please, come on in.”
Fiona brought a small gift for Teresa. She paused to take in Teresa’s makeup–free, porcelain- like complexion–so fair and delicate–and felt a surge of genuine affection. She took Teresa by the hand and they went upstairs.
Teresa helped Fiona along, with Michael bouncing happily behind them.
“Fiona, you know what? My usually lazy mom actually spent the whole afternoon cleaning the house just because you were coming,” Michael announced.
Teresa shot Michael a glare as if saying, “You have to spill the beans.”
Fiona immediately felt a bit sorry for Teresa. She said, “We’re family–no need to be so polite. What matters most is that you get some rest. Come on, let me have a good look at you.”
Jonathan came in loaded with bags, handed them to the driver, and then scooped Michael up into his arms. “Where’s Felix?” he asked.
“He just fell asleep,” Michael replied, snuggling up to Jonathan’s shoulder.
“Oh, really?” Jonathan said.
