Teresa hesitated. She thought, ‘Lucas is right. Yalena didn’t hurt Lucas directly–she hurt his friend.
‘If I stick my neck out and call the police now, Lucas’s friend might not even appreciate it. He might even blame me for meddling in his business.
‘Besides, even if I did call the police, Yalena would only get detained for assault for a short spell–just like when she beat Lucas last time. She’d never serve anywhere near a life sentence.
Teresa thought it over, then said seriously, “Yalena’s so arrogant now, I bet she’s pulled plenty of dirty tricks before. I’ll get to the bottom of what she’s really up to. Lucas, just make sure you keep yourself safe.”
Lucas nodded and said, “You be careful too, Teresa.”
Teresa had to get to work, so she headed out.
When she got back to the office, Teresa saw the news that had broken that day. It was all about her.
Someone had snapped photos of Teresa while she was out, and some tabloid had started making up stories about Jonathan.
The post read: [Horizonlead Group is going bankrupt. Jonathan’s done for. He’s broke and can’t even support his wife, so he’s making her go out and work.]
As soon as the news hit, the comments started pouring in. Teresa was sure Jonathan would see it too.
She thought, ‘Even if Jonathan is all the way overseas and not keeping up with the gossip, his guys–Benny and Gary–would fill him in.‘
Lucas saw the news too, and he suspected the Kellys were behind the leak.
Tom was stuck in the hospital and needed 60 thousand for his medical bills. Lucas just didn’t have that kind of money lying around. He thought, ‘Even if I have the money, that’s Yalena’s mess to clean up.‘
Tom handed a name card to Lucas and said, “Someone from the Kelly family came by today. A guy told me you should call this number yourself when you come by.”
Lucas took the card and frowned. He dialed the number and Yalena answered the phone.
“Let’s just meet at the hospital,” Lucas suggested.

Yalena laughed and said, “Relax, what, are you worried I’ll kidnap you again? I promise I won’t this time. Let’s meet at the café across from the hospital–I’ll be waiting.” With that, she hung
- up.
Lucas was baffled by what Yalena was scheming.
Yalena arrived soon. She got straight to the point. She said, “How about this? You get together with me, and I’ll wipe the slate clean–no more grudges against Teresa or Jonathan. We’ll call it even.”
Lucas couldn’t believe what he just heard. He stared at Yalena, feeling absolutely nothing for her–if anything, he thought she was totally nuts. He said, “Are you kidding me? What nonsense are you talking about?”
Yalena replied, “I’m dead serious. If you say no, I’ll make Teresa’s life a nightmare. She won’t get a single peaceful day, and she’ll be living in fear every day because of you.
“You’re not just going to stand by and watch that happen, are you?”
Lucas said, “You’re out of your mind. I don’t want to hear any more of this. Right now, my friend is in the hospital because of you.
“He doesn’t want to call the cops, so I’ll let you off this time–but only on one condition: you pay for his medical bills.”
Yalena snapped her fingers when she saw the anger burning in Lucas’s eyes. She said, “That’s easy. As long as you’re with me, money won’t ever be a problem. I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of.”
Lucas looked at her, utterly baffled. He asked, “Why are you so hell–bent on making me be with you? What, do you have a thing for me or something?”
Yalena locked eyes with Lucas, staring into those same clear, honest eyes of his. She curved her lips into a meaningful smirk and said, “Come on, use your imagination. I’m in love with you.”
