Chapter 946
Lucas’s injury report showed facial bruising, a bloody nose, a minor leg fracture, and no internal injuries. It was classified as a minor injury.
The guys who beat him up turned themselves in, but didn’t rat out who put them up to it. They just claimed that they couldn’t stand Lucas getting so much attention from the director and acted out of
impulse.
Something just didn’t sit right with Jonathan. There was absolutely no question that these guys were
sent by Yalena. But he couldn’t figure out why Yalena would let Lucas off the hook.
If it were really just a minor injury, Teresa wouldn’t have been so shaken that she went into premature
labor.
Jonathan still couldn’t bring himself to believe it, but with Lucas all the way in Nareigh, there was nothing he could do about it. The injury report was staring him right in the face.
Benny was so mad that he was practically grinding his teeth. “I heard Eason’s already down at the station. With just a minor injury, Yalena won’t even get charged for this, and with these scapegoats taking the fall, I doubt they’ll even detain her.”
Jonathan narrowed his eyes. “Maybe you should go back to Nareigh and have someone run another injury report. There’s no way things are that simple with Yalena involved.”
Benny nodded. “Alright, I’ll head back to Nareigh tomorrow. You’ve calmed down now? Not going to do anything rash, right?”
Jonathan gave a quiet nod, and after a long pause, said sincerely to Benny, “Thanks.”
Benny let out a long sigh. “Acting on impulse never ends well. I’m just glad you’re thinking straight
now.”
Meanwhile, Miriam was also on her way. She’d been trying to call Teresa but couldn’t get through, and Jonathan wasn’t picking up either, so in the end, she called Benny.
Miriam was Teresa’s best friend, and there was no way Jonathan could really stop her from coming. Edward was tagging along with her. The two of them arrived early the next morning.
Teresa was still out cold. The moment Miriam caught sight of Teresa, even from way across the room, her eyes were already streaming with tears.
She dashed to the bedside, threw her arms around Teresa, and broke down sobbing like a little kid. “Who the hell did this to Teresa? Was it your drama–stirring mother?” Miriam glared daggers at

Jonathan through her tears.
Benny and Miriam quickly explained what had happened, but instead of calming her down, it only made her even more furious and agitated. She jabbed a finger at Jonathan.
“This is all your fault. Didn’t you promise you’d protect her? Look at what she’s gone through just to have your child. Your mom’s treated her like crap, and all those women chasing after you. What do you think that made her feel?
“You’ve got some money, sure, but do you realize how many enemies you’ve made in business? Either step up and protect her, or just stay away. Don’t come back and mess up her life. Before you barged in, Teresa and I were doing just fine!”
“Miriam, calm down,” Edward tried to hold her.
But Miriam brushed Edward off impatiently. She was determined to speak her mind and let it all out today. “Jonathan, it’s all your fault. And don’t think I don’t know that you and Teresa never even got
remarried!”
As soon as Miriam dropped that bomb, Edward and Benny were both left speechless.
“You two just made up that whole remarriage story to fool the public and shut down the gossip, didn’t you?” Miriam shot back.
Edward was totally floored.
Benny was the first to catch on. Seeing Jonathan just sitting there, not even bothering to deny it, Benny got it right away. Turned out, they really never remarried.
