Chapter 974
Chapter 974
Evelyn was overwhelmed with guilt. She couldn’t help but feel she’d failed as a mother.
“Mommy, don’t cry,” Isabel said in her soft, babyish voice, reaching up to wipe away Evelyn’s tears. Teresa, who had been about to reach out and do the same, quietly lowered her hand instead.
Evelyn hugged Isabel close, showering her little face with kisses. “Sweetheart, Mommy’s okay. You have to grow up happy and have a smooth, peaceful life, alright? Don’t go through what your brother and sister did,” she said softly.
“Alright, that’s enough,” Teresa said quietly, even though she was crying just as much as Evelyn.
“Now that Lucas‘ okay, I can finally relax. As long as our family stays well from now on, that’s all I want,” she added.
Evelyn wiped her eyes. “By the way, who were those people who attacked Lucas? He said it was some woman who hired thugs to do it. How could she be so gutsy, pulling something like that in broad daylight?”
“Just some rich family’s daughter. You don’t know her anyway, so just let it go,” Teresa said.
Teresa sniffled, just about to wipe away her tears, when a little hand reached out to her. “Mommy, don’t cry!” Michael said.
Teresa turned and saw Michael’s face. She gave a relieved smile and hugged her child tightly.
At that moment, Teresa rested her forehead against Michael’s. She was a mother of two, and she truly understood that her children were her greatest treasures. Whether she had one child or two, each of them was priceless to her.
That night, Evelyn and Isabel stayed at Forlisle Rose Estates. Evelyn thought that Teresa and Jonathan had really gotten back together, so she stayed at Jonathan’s house.
With Jennifer’s court hearing, Teresa barely got any sleep that night. She got in touch with Benny, asking if there was any way she could see Jennifer before the hearing.
Jennifer’s lawyer was the star lawyer at Benny’s law firm.
Benny told her there was just no way. Only lawyers were allowed to visit Jennifer before the trial. He reassured Teresa, telling her not to worry. Jennifer was doing just fine.
Benny had already let Jennifer know that Teresa had given birth and both mom and baby were doing fine.
“What did she say?” Teresa asked.
“She said she’d been counting the days and figured you shouldn’t have given birth yet, so she was surprised you had the baby early, Someone from my team told her the real story.
“At first, she thought it was Jonathan’s mom who stressed you out and made you go into labor early, but I told her that wasn’t it,” Benny explained.
Teresa’s eyes brimmed with tears. “And then? What else did she say?”
“She wanted me to remind you to really take care of yourself, don’t do anything impulsive, and make sure you protect both yourself and the baby And whatever happens, don’t ever let go of custody of your child,” Benny said.
Teresa’s tears flowed even harder, her throat tightening as if something was stuck there. She realized it had been so long since she

“You’ll get to see her at the trial tomorrow. Just believe things will turn out for the best. You and Jonathan should try to get some sleep,” Benny said.
“Got it. Let Jennifer know I’ll definitely be there tomorrow. I didn’t tell my mom about it, so she wouldn’t be coming,” Teresa replied. With that, she hung up the phone.
Teresa knew she wouldn’t be getting any sleep tonight. Jonathan didn’t get much sleep either. When he got home, he told Teresa to get some sleep and went next door to check on Felix.
The baby hardly ever woke up during the night, and even if she did, the nanny was there to handle it. Teresa could really relax. It was so much easier than when she had to take care of Michael by herself.
Teresa gazed at Jonathan’s tall figure as he held the baby in his arms, her eyes lingering on the scene. To her, he was a steady and immovable presence. ‘How long are we going to keep living like this?‘ she wondered, feeling lost and uncertain.
Once she fully recovered, they were destined to part ways again, just like before.
By the time the sun came up, it was finally the day of the trial, the day everyone had been waiting for.
