Jonathan’s gaze was locked onto Teresa. Teresa swore that every word she said in court was true, and if there was even a single lie,
she’d accept any consequences.
“Alright, Ms. Johnston,” the plaintiff’s lawyer spoke up again. “Please answer my previous question.”
Teresa replied calmly, “Earlier this year, I did give Jennifer a car, a Mercedes–Benz C260. Back then, we both thought we were real sisters and were really close, so I gifted her the car in my own name. But I had no idea she was faking the reports.”
The lawyer asked, “But Jennifer faked the report about your son. You really didn’t know?”
Jonathan suddenly stood up. “I can testify that she didn’t know.”
“Plaintiff, please sit down.” It was the first time the judge had seen a plaintiff more restless than the defendant. His eyes were practically glued to her.
Concern made Jonathan restless, and he slowly sat down, his gaze still fixed on Teresa.
She’d only just gotten out of the hospital. If something really happened to Teresa, Jonathan wouldn’t let anyone here off the hook, especially Irene, and that lawyer she brought along.
The plaintiff’s lawyer kept pressing Teresa. “Ms. Johnston, Jennifer faked reports multiple times later on. Are you saying you really didn’t know about any of that?”
“I did know about it later,” Teresa replied.
“Oh? Then why didn’t you report her right away? There’s only one explanation. You put her up to faking your child’s report.”
“I never put her up to faking any reports for me.”
“What about pleading with her? Did you use your bond as sisters, or maybe even try to bribe her?”
The defendant’s lawyer countered, “Plaintiff, you’re getting off track. The party involved in this case is Jennifer. She abused her authority and faked the reports.”
The plaintiff’s lawyer asked, “Then why would the defendant fake those reports? If it was just for her sister, why would a doctor go that far? Doing it again and again? It’s obvious someone was pulling the strings behind her.”
“No one put me up to it.” Jennifer finally spoke up. “I faked all the reports myself. My sister didn’t know anything about it. Later, she tried to stop me several times, but I kept forging the DNA tests on my own.”
The plaintiff’s lawyer asked, “Then why’d you do it?”
“Because my heart ached for my sister. I didn’t want the child to be snatched away by his father and that vicious grandmother of his.” Jennifer’s eyes were locked on Irene, making sure everyone heard just how much she meant it.
Irene was clearly getting restless, but the plaintiff’s lawyer kept pressing Jennifer. “You’re just the kid’s aunt, not his real mom. So why are you acting even more afraid of him being taken away than his own mother is? That excuse just doesn’t add up.
“Your Honor, the situation here is pretty straightforward. Teresa was paranoid about losing her child, so she pressured the defendant, Jennifer, into faking reports for her over and over again.

“That’s why Jennifer abused her authority and faked those reports, which kept Jonathan from reuniting with the child in time.”
“Plaintiff, until you have any evidence, please don’t make any definitive statements. That’s just your speculation.” The defendant’s lawyer and the plaintiff’s lawyer were on the verge of arguing.
The plaintiff’s lawyer sneered and kept his eyes on Jennifer. “Defendant, according to our investigation, you registered your marriage with Donald, the eldest son of Jonathan’s uncle, just last year.
“Since you’re already married into the Lynn family, why would you still go out of your way to fake those reports? There’s nothing in it for you. Or is it that someone has something in you, and you had no choice but to do it?”
