Jonathan didn’t explain. He just ruffled Michael’s hair and said that soon, he would take him and Felix to see their mom. Evelyn was back, too, so it was a good time for them to visit her.

Jonathan took both Michael and Felix with him. The whole way, he tried to hold it together, but his eyes still reddened.
Outside, the streets bustled with traffic and bright lights. He had worked so hard and owned properties everywhere, but it still felt like there wasn’t a single light in this world that truly belonged to him.
As they neared Rosary Estates, he hugged Michael close, kissed his cheek, and Jonathan’s chin brushed against the boy’s hair. He had only just started calling him his son, and he didn’t know when he’d get to see this sweet boy again.
Michael noticed something was off with Jonathan and asked, “Mr. Lime, are you okay today? Is something on your mind?”
“It’s nothing.” Jonathan wanted to always look strong and dependable in front of the kids. He didn’t want them to see him any other way.
When they reached the entrance of Rosary Estates, the security guard recognized the Maybach and opened the gate.
Jonathan carried Felix, who was fast asleep in the back seat. He was just a newborn. Jonathan gently kissed his tiny face.
At that moment, he felt like he could never kiss his kids enough. But he couldn’t take either of his children with him. No matter how much he wanted to, he just couldn’t.
The pain of missing them in the days to come would be his alone to bear. Even before saying goodbye, his heart was already aching.
“Mike, can you press the elevator button?” Jonathan asked, his hands full with Felix and a bunch of other stuff.
When they got to Teresa’s floor, Evelyn came to open the door.
“Cathy, I brought Mike and Felix over,” Jonathan said.

“Just hand me the baby. Teresa’s in the shower,” Evelyn sighed, still giving Jonathan the cold shoulder as she took Felix from his arms. She put her arm around Michael and led him inside.
Jonathan set things down and closed the door, and that was when Michael realized his dad hadn’t come inside.
“Mr. Daddy Lime!” Michael was about to run after him, but Evelyn pulled him back. “Grandma! Why did my dad just leave like that?”
“Let him go. It’s best if he just stays away. Be a good boy, Mike, and said.

Michael blinked at Evelyn’s words, and thinking about how odd Jonathan had been acting, the little guy’s mind started racing. He quickly dashed out after him.
“Dad! Mr. Daddy Lime! Wait for me!” Michael shouted, his voice full of panic.
Michael ran as fast as he could all the way downstairs after him. Jonathan was just about to get into his car when he heard his son’s anxious call. He finally lost control of his tears. Taking a moment to compose himself, he turned around.
Michael latched onto Jonathan’s leg, his little arms holding tight. “Dad, where are you going? Don’t you want me, Mom, and Felix anymore?”
Jonathan scooped Michael up and soothed him gently. “Of course not. How could I ever not want you guys?”
Michael shook his head, not convinced at all. “Then why did Mom come back? Why did you bring me and Felix here?
“Why didn’t you come inside? Grandma said you should just go and never come back. Why? Are you really leaving us? You don’t want us anymore, do you?”
He had just started calling Jonathan his dad, and he didn’t want to be separated from him.
