Chapter 11
“Act your age. You’re going to pick a fight with a kid now?” His words hit me like a slap.
I knew he wouldn’t believe me, but his blatant favoritism still stung.
I looked at him, a sour expression in my eyes, fighting back tears.“I didn’t push him at all!”
He laughed.“Are you saying a child of a few years old tripped and framed you?”
My heart trembled.
Why bother explaining? He wouldn’t believe me.
I lowered my eyes, trying to regain my composure.“Meeting you guys is just my bad luck, okay?” I turned to leave.
“Stop.”
I hesitated, then didn’t look back,
“Collin is just a kid after all, why bother arguing with him,” his tone softened.“Apologize to Collin.”
“Jaxson, maybe we should just forget about it…” Caroline interjected.
His eyes were cold. Wrong is wrong. Own up to it like an adult.”
My fingers clenched, my nails digging into my palm, but I barely felt the pain.
I turned slowly, looking directly at Jaxson, pointing to the surveillance cameras under the streetlight.“Heavenwood Apartments are full of surveillance cameras. Can’t you go check the surveillance before trying to be a hero?”
“If I did something wrong in the surveillance, I can apologize, but if it’s not my fault, don’t expect me to apologize!”
I didn’t look at him again. I turned and walked away.
I felt a tightening in his chest, a darkening of his expression as I left.
Caroline panicked at the mention of “monitoring.” She was terrified Jaxson would check the footage. She grabbed him.“Jaxson, let it go. Collin wasn’t hurt, and I believe Dr. Sutton didn’t do it on purpose.”
She couldn’t let him see the surveillance, quickly changing the subject. Jaxson, Collin is about to be late, let’s go first.”
He pulled his arm away.“I have informed the principal, you take Collin over there, she will arrange everything, I have a meeting.”
He went straight to the car.
Caroline tightened her grip as she watched Jaxson drive away, but she forgot she was still holding Collin’s hand.
“Mom, I’m in pain.”
Collin was pinched by her.
Caroline came to her senses, slowly crouching down and grabbing his shoulders, her eyes gloomy, with a hint of satisfaction. Collin, you did very well this time, excellent.”
