Chapter 339
Chapter 339
“Tuff, I… I’m fine…” Kayla choked out, her voice quivering as she struggled to explain herself. Her palms were raw and bleeding, from clawing at her sin inte an attempt to resist the drug’s effects.
“I know,” Tuff said, nodding hard. “I was outside the whole time. I heard everything. You were courageous”
Kayla managed a smile, her tear–filled eyes betraying a heartbreaking fragility. His trust made her feel that, no matter how much it hurt, she was no longer wronged. It was all worthwhile for him.
“Knock me out and take me to the hospital,” Kayla said.
Tuff couldn’t bring himself to hurt her. “No need. I’m the cure you need,” he said.
“No…” Kayla whispered. She shook her head gently. “I don’t want to do it this way.”
“Kayla, we’re husband and wife…” Tuff tried to reason with her.
“I still don’t want to,” she insisted, her voice firm. Kayla kept refusing, and in the end, Tuff had no choice but to agree. “If only Dr. Shawn were here,” Kayla added.
“He is!” Tuff replied with a smile.
Kayla was stunned for a moment. “Amy called him. He just arrived,” Tuff added.
“Thank goodness…” Kayla said, finally felt the weight lift off her shoulders. Only Brian could ease her pain as quickly as possible.
“Hurry, hurry!” Amelia called out, jogging after them. “Head to Aiden’s room–Dr. Shawn’s already there!” Tuff carried Kayla as fast as he could toward the house with the lights on.
The night wind chilled the sweat on Amelia’s skin, causing her to shiver from the cold. She stood in the breeze, trembling and completely exhausted–like a bow that had lost all its strength to shoot.
As she glanced back, Kayla saw Landon and the others still handling Jonny. Fortunately, Jonny’s heart attack had provided them with the opportunity they needed. Otherwise, it was hard to imagine how much more Kayla would have had to endure. It turned out that clones not only inherited the flaws of their originals, but they also carried their unique issues.
Amelia wondered, ‘What were the flaws in Joanna’s cloned Porter?‘
Her thoughts drifted, swept away by the night breeze. She found herself pondering her son, her brother, and her grandfather. Uncertain how long she had stood there, lost in reflection, she felt a coat–still warm from his body–gently placed over her shoulders. When she looked up, she met the gaze of those familiar, tender eyes.
“Landon…” Amelia whispered, her voice trembling with relief. She stood up and threw herself into Landon’s arms.
Landon wrapped one arm around her waist and used the other to help her hold the coat. “You must’ve been scared, huh?”
“I’m fine,” Amelia replied, her voice gravelly. She had, been frightened when she arrived, but she moved forward without hesitation.
She understood, deep down, that if she didn’t commit fully, she would undoubtedly lose. Only by giving it her all could she hope to succeed. But now, with everything concluded, the actual fear washed over her. The aftershock of dread was overwhelming, resembling the endless darkness of night, threatening to engulf her.
“We’re safe now,” Landon said softly.
“What about Jonny?” Amelia asked.
Landon smiled. “He’s dead.”

Chapter 339
“Is he gone for sure? Killing a clone, is it the same as killing a real person?” Aniella pressed.
“Yes,” Landon said, his voice firm. “Just to be safe, I had someone take him to get cremated,” he said, sounding, certain.
Amelia finally felt a wave of relief wash over her. ‘Once he’s ashes, there’s no way he can come back, right?‘ she thought
“I’ll take you to rest,” Landon said, lifting Amelia into his arms and walking toward the nearby house.
Brian was inside, treating Kayla. Since it was Aiden’s place, it felt safer than anywhere else.
Amelia clung tightly to Landon’s neck, her racing heart slowly calming down. “Landon, Landon…” she murmured, over and over again.
Every time she called his name, he answered right away–never missing a beat, always there for her. He knew she needed to feel safe at that moment.
Kayla had already fallen asleep, with Tuff quietly sitting by her side. Jonny had tested every ounce of his patience that night, and his eyes were still red from everything that had happened. But now, all the anger had faded away, replaced by nothing but boundless tenderness.
“Dr. Shawn, how’s Kayla?” Landon asked.
“She’s doing okay for now,” Brian said, absentmindedly twirling a blade of grass between his fingers with a furrowed brow. However, he didn’t seem very optimistic.
Landon and Amelia both tensed up, remembering how Patrick once drugged Amelia, making her unable to have kids for a while.
“For now?” Landon pressed, his voice tense. “Will there be
any side effects?”
Tuff’s voice was rough, but gentle. “It’s alright. We have Landen–he’s all we need.”
Landon and Amelia exchanged a somber glance. It was true–Kayla would not be able to have another child. Brian let out a sigh, snapping the blade of grass in his hand. “But during those days of the month, she’s going to experience a lot of pain.”
Amelia’s heart clenched with worry. “Just how bad is it?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“She’s going to be bleeding heavily, and the pain will be so intense that she might lose consciousness,” Brian said, his voice filled with concern.
Everyone gasped sharply. Amelia winced, fully aware of how excruciating period cramps could be–bad enough to make you vomit or even require an IV. For Kayla to faint from the pain only showed how truly unbearable it must have been.
“I’ll call Dr. Mitchell,” Landon said, already reaching for his phone.
Tuff cut in, “Don’t bother. I already asked him.”
Hope faded in Landon’s eyes, leaving him feeling lost and helpless. “Kayla…” Amelia gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. Even the guys struggled to hold it together.
Kayla’s life had been a series of heartbreaks. She was taken as a child, endured immense suffering, and when she finally escaped, she lost her memory- she couldn’t even remember where home was. Her foster parents treated her well for a few years, but eventually, she found herself in the care of Jonny. She had only been back home for a few months when she faced heartbreak once more.
“It’s alright. She has me now,” Tuff said, attempting to sound strong, though his eyes were red and misty as well. Kayla was the woman he loved most, and he wished he could take her place and bear all her suffering himself.
“Tuff, you’re a good man. Kayla is lucky to have you,” Landon said, raising his glass in a heartfelt toast to Tuff.
After chatting quietly with Brian for a while, Amelia headed to the kitchen to prepare some midnight snacks. Everyone was feeling exhausted tonight.
Not long after, Aiden entered carrying Night Owl in his arms. She appeared extremely pale, as if she might faint at any moment. Brian quickly administered some acupuncture to help stabilize her heart.
Chapter 339
“Just rest. It’s all over now,” Alden said softly as he held Night Owl’s hand, his face marked by sorrow. That night, he had to kit nie brather tested.
“He’s not your brother. He’s just a clone—a piece Monroe moved on the board,” Night Owl said, her tone softer than usual, array ging to contin
Tears streamed down Aiden’s face as he pressed his lips together, determined to keep silent. ‘Yeah, the guy tonight was a clones that that face it twisted personality, there was no difference at all from the real him. No, he truly was Jonny’s double. Same blood couming through their worse, fas thought.
“Why are you acting like such a child?” Night Owl smiled, her pale face looking unusually soft in the gentle glow of the night light. Aiden, you
Aiden froze, stunned. ‘A hero? Me?‘ he thought, his mind spinning.
“You did well tonight. I’m willing to give you a chance,” Night Owl said, turning away shyly. He had only just managed to break free from the ses of blood and force himself to kill Jonny for her sake.
About half an hour ago, Jonny suddenly had a heart attack. Landon pressed the gun to Jonny’s forehead. “Why did Monroe send you here?”
“The reason? Revenge, of course,” Jonny said, clutching his chest with a twisted grin. “You think killing me means you’ve won? No way, you’ll never beat him…” His words carried a warning, making everyone uneasy.
“Spit it out! What else is he planning?” Landon demanded, his voice sharp.
“Like hell I’m telling you anything. Not unless you hand Kayla over to me!” Jonny sneered, his eyes wild with obsession.
After everything they had endured to rescue Kayla, there was no way they would ever return her to him. Night Owl stepped forward without hesitation and gently pressed her hand to Jonny’s forehead. Taking advantage of his weakened state, she put him under once more, sending him back into a trance.
