Chapter 340
Chapter 340
A fragile soul was easier to hypnotize, and Night Owl succeeded. She asked, “What is Monroe’s goal?”
“Kill you all!”
“How?”
“Use Kayla to have leverage over you!”
It was a good idea, but it had already failed. Monroe is far too cunning to stop at that. Sending Jonny back to the Kyle family in broad daylight was a considerable risk. Even if Kayla was in his possession, he couldn’t take on the Flying Tiger Sect by himself.
Jonny’s gaze was dull as he answered every question without hesitation, appearing truthful. Night Owl was about to inquire again, “What else does Monroe have planned?”
“Well…” Jonny suddenly lunged at Night Owl, gripping her tightly–his previously vacant eyes now sharp and focused.
Even after being shot, Jonny’s grip was as firm as iron. Night Owl and Aiden together couldn’t pry his hands loose. Seeing Night Owl struggling for breath, Aiden, his hands trembling, was compelled to take Jonny’s life once more. It marked the second time he had to kill Jonny.
Night Owl would never forget how much Aiden’s hands had trembled back then. Aiden couldn’t forget it either. Every time he closed his eyes, the two moments when he had killed his brother replayed and merged in his mind.
He remained by Night Owl’s bedside, his expression gradually becoming vacant. It wasn’t until Amelia brought over some late–night snacks that she said, “Here, have something to eat.”
“Thanks…” Aiden replied, taking the dumplings and savoring them slowly. The bedside lamp illuminated a small pool of warm yellow light, highlighting his pale and delicate figure even more.
“Now that things have calmed down, get some rest after you eat. Owl still needs you,” Amelia said softly.
Aiden paused, his voice barely above a whisper. “I had
to kill my
brother again…”
“You were courageous,” Amelia said softly, noticing how his hands still trembled–she could tell the trauma ran deep.
Amelia couldn’t understand it. Since Jonny was already their enemy, she wondered why Aiden was still so shaken. It had to be what people referred to as bloodline suppression, and it felt pretty strange.
Amelia had never experienced any of that so–called bloodline suppression from Daniel. Similarly, Landon, who spent half his life feeling guilty towards Kayla, never behaved this way either.
“Why did he have to make me do it again?” Aiden choked, his voice trembling. All that pent–up pain had nowhere to go–it was almost laughable, if it didn’t hurt so much.
“Because he’s both evil and nuts! You can’t use normal logic to figure out someone like him,” Amelia said.
Aiden gave a bitter, helpless smile. “Maybe you guys are right. My family, we’re all crazy, aren’t we?”
Amelia felt a wave of awkwardness. She had often called him crazy in the past, but now her perception of him had changed entirely.
“But Night Owl agreed to give it a try with me,” Aiden said, wiping his face and finally smiling with relief.
Amelia thought, ‘Well, looks like he didn’t need me to cheer him up. He’d already sorted himself out!’
“I’m fine here. You should be with Kayla. She’s been through a lot again,” Aiden said.
Amelia nodded. “I just have to ask–are you sure that psycho is gone for good?”

“Yeah, I’ve already arranged for the cremation,” Alden replied.
“Okay,” Amelia replied. She stepped out and closed the door.
In another room, Tuff and Landon were anxiously watching over Kayla, unable to sleep at all. They hardly touched the late night snacks that had hous brought in. Amelia realized they wouldn’t be able to relax until Kayla woke up, so she decided to have a chat with Brian instead.
“Dr. Shawn, thank goodness you got here in time,” Amelia said.
“Whenever something happens to her, please inform me immediately,” Brian responded, once again toying with some rosemary. The air was filled with its fragrant scent.
Amelia turned to look and noticed that the rosemary in the living room had been completely stripped. Brian chuckled and said, “Whenever I’m in a bad mood, I just end up messing with the plants.”
“At least you aren’t ruining them,” Amelia joked. “Dr. Shawn, you’ve been such a great help to us. If there’s ever anything we can do for you, please let us know.”
“Just make sure you treat her right,” Brian said.
“Of course. Is there anything else you’d like to suggest?” Amelia asked.
“That’s all,” Brian replied.
Amelia was surprised. “If Tuff can’t treat her properly, I’ll take her away,” Brian said, his gaze distant, but it was clear he meant every word.
It immediately clicked for Amelia: Brian had been in love with Kayla all along. He had infiltrated the Kyle family and made enemies with the Mystic Sect, all in the hopes of ensuring she’d have a happy, peaceful life.
“Tuff is also having a tough time, so I didn’t tell him myself. Could you please pass it on when you get a chance?” Brian said.
Amelia’s emotions were a whirlwind, but she steeled herself and said, “Yeah, I will.”
As the sky gradually brightened, Kayla finally woke up. Seeing Tuff and Landon by her side, she felt a mix of emotions–touched yet a little hurt. Tears began to fall once more. “Why didn’t you two go to sleep?”
Tuff gently squeezed her hand and asked, “Kayla, how are you feeling now?” Meanwhile, Landon looked at her with a look of concern.
Kayla nodded. “I’m not in pain anymore. I’m okay now.”
“You endured so much last night. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you,” Tuff said, his voice thick with guilt as he had blamed himself all night. If only he had found a safer place, she would never have crossed paths with Jonny, and she wouldn’t have had to face all that suffering.
“It’s not your fault. That was all Monroe’s scheme,” Kayla sighed. “By the way, what’s going on with the Mystic Sect?”
“The Montgomery brothers and Monica have all been taken back to the Flying Tiger Sect. Someone’s already taken over things on the Mystic Sect’s end,” Landon replied.
“So, is it all over now?” Kayla’asked.
Landon nodded. “Yeah.” However, a restless irritation bubbled up inside him. Yesterday, everything had gone smoothly–breaking into and taking out Jonny. Perhaps it was just his mind playing tricks on him, but he couldn’t shake this uneasy feeling. It seemed as thoug truly over yet.

“So, can we go home now?” Kayła asked, reaching out and grabbing Tuff’s sleeve. “I miss Landen, and I miss Mom…”
Tuff’s nose stung, and his voice was hoarse as he replied, “Of course. We’ll head back today.”

“That’s wonderful…” Kayla let out a long sigh of relief and finally broke into a smile,
Landon said, “Kayla, Tuff stayed up all night for you. You two should get some more rest.”
“Okay,” she replied. She scooted over in the bed, making room for Tuff.
Landon stepped outside and closed the door behind him. It was time to cuddle with Amelia. He was utterly exhausted. All he wanted was a big, warm
hug.
As dawn arrived, the sun slowly rose above the horizon. The entire Kyle Villa had returned to its typical hustle and bustle, as if the chaos of the previous night had never occurred. Not far away, amidst a sea of tulips, stood a familiar figure.
“Honey,” Landon said with a smile, striding over and pulling her into a tight hug, “Kayla’s awake. She’s okay…”
“That’s great…” Amelia turned to face Landon, her relieved smile turning to concern as she saw how worn out he looked. “You must be exhausted. Let’s go get some rest.”
“Why didn’t you sleep? I told you to get some rest,” Landon said, gently touching her face–it felt so cold. Just how long had she been standing here? he thought.
“I can’t sleep when you’re not here,” Amelia said with a gentle smile. “Come on, let’s get some rest.”
“Okay,” Landon replied. As their fingers were interlaced, he suddenly remembered someone and asked, “Where is Dr. Shawn?”
