Chapter 5
After being drenched in the storm, I came home feverish and weak. With no one around to help, I endured through the night alone.
By morning, I felt slightly better, so I dragged my frail body to the Hospital.
To my dismay, the first thing I saw was Ethan’s car parked outside.
Moments later, Sophia got out, spotting me with a smug smile.
“Lily, what are you doing here? Not feeling well?”
I ignored her, but as I walked past, she grabbed my wrist.
“Lily Evans, do you know why I’m here today?”
I pulled my arm back coldly. “I don’t care.”
She puffed out her barely noticeable belly and raised her voice, making sure everyone nearby could hear.
“I’m pregnant. Ethan brought me here for a checkup.”
Her eyes locked onto mine, eager to see me lose control.
But my steps never faltered; I didn’t even raise an eyelid.
Pregnant? So what? Whatever happened between Ethan and her was no longer my concern.
But Sophia wouldn’t let it go. She chased after me, blocking my path, her tone dripping with pride.
“Lily, do you think Ethan will love me even more once this child is born? After all, this will be the first Cole grandson.”
“Move.”
My voice was hoarse, fever still gnawing at me, each word an effort.
‘I won’t.” She smiled triumphantly. “With this baby, how much longer do you think you can keep your place as Mrs. Cole?”
Just then, Ethan walked out of the hospital lobby, holding a receipt.
Seeing us face off, he frowned and hurried over, pulling Sophia behind him.
‘What’s going on?”
Sophia immediately put on her best wounded act, tugging at his arm.
‘Ethan, I just wanted to say hello to Lily, but she seems upset with me.”
His gaze shifted to my face. Seeing how pale I was, his frown deepened.
“What’s wrong? You look terrible.”
I ignored him and tried to walk past.
“Lily Evans!” He grabbed my arm, not gently. “Are you sick?”
I yanked free. “Let go. It’s none of your business.”
He hesitated, then said, “Lily, this is my child-the Cole family’s child. I can’t ignore that.”
I met his eyes. “Do whatever you want. It has nothing to do with me.”
With that, I walked away, while Ethan escorted Sophia to the obstetrics wing.
Back home, after a brief rest, I made an overseas call.
“Everything is ready.”
Once the ticket was booked, I erased every trace of myself from the Cole household.
The wedding photo of me and Ethan above the bed-I burned it.
The gifts he’d given me-l packed them up and handed them to the cleaning staff.
Once, I had poured my heart into decorating our home. Now, all of it felt like a cruel joke.
“Ma’am, you’re throwing away all of this? This one was a birthday gift from Mr. Cole, that one was for your anniversary, and this pearl necklace-he gave it to you for your first wedding anniversary.”
“And this? He made this painting himself.”
I bundled it all together without hesitation.
“Throw it all away.”
I placed the signed Divorce Agreement on the table where Ethan would see it as soon as he
walked in.
As the last trail of smoke rose from the trash can, I shut the door to the mansion behind me.
