Isla looked at Ronan coldly. “So you think that because I was schemed against, I should stay silent and pretend I know nothing?”
Ronan’s anger flared. “If you were dissatisfied, you should have left when I let you go. Why force yourself to stay?
“You were so calm back then. I should’ve suspected you right away.”
Ronan had never wanted to marry Isla. If he hadn’t worried that the Ellsworth family would cause more trouble, he wouldn’t have kept her around for even a moment.
No matter her motive, he never intended to let her stay long.
Isla naturally understood his meaning, her eyes freezing as she stared at him. “So now you think I married you just to take revenge on Aurora?”
Ronan remained silent.
She took a deep breath, stepped forward, and met his gaze calmly. “If I wanted revenge on her, why would I marry you—a poor nobody—instead of directly marrying the rich heir she fancies?”
Isla twisted the corner of her lips in mockery. “You take yourself far too seriously.”
Ronan’s face darkened instantly, his eyes burning with fury. “Then why do you insist on living with me?”
“I’m not insisting,” she said. “I just want you to know, I’m not using you.”
Ronan pressed his thin lips tightly, his eyes gleaming with a chilling mix of anger and disgust. “Why should I believe you? To me, you’re a completely deceitful woman. Living with someone like you makes me uncomfortable.”
Isla paused, then smirked, “So, that’s your real thought, huh?”

Since he insisted on thinking she was using him to harm Aurora, no amount of explanation would make a difference.

She had been through this countless times.
Even her own family didn’t believe her–how could an outsider?

She went downstairs, and the rain had grown heavier, mixed with a biting wind. Goosebumps rose on her arms.
There was no one around.
The dozen eggs in her arms were soaked.
Isla pulled out her phone, intending to call Logan. She pressed the screen, but it displayed low battery, and the phone shut down before the call went through.
Looked like she’d have to go back to the school. Her office had a spare charger.
She sighed softly and stepped out into the pouring rain.
But Isla hadn’t expected that before she even reached the office building, she would be surrounded by a group of boys.

On the other side, Ronan returned to the apartment.
He had lived here for several years and had never brought anyone inside.
Yet now, the air carried a faint scent of medicine from the woman.
He should have been annoyed, but for some reason, the scent calmed him.
Damn it.
Ronan pressed his thin lips together, sitting on the sofa, increasingly regretting letting her stay.
The rain outside grew heavier, the sound of water drumming against the windows adding to his irritation.
Just as he was about to get up, his phone rang.
It was David.
He said, “Mr. Ellsworth, I’ve checked into Miss Beaumont’s situation. She’s just returned, and it hasn’t even been a week. The next day, her family and her former friends schemed to send her
to you.

from the records, she’s incredibly capable. In just two years, she completed her studies and was invited by Cloudie University to teach as a medical professor. Today, she went to school to give
a lecture to her students.”
Ronan’s cold eyes flickered with rare surprise. “She’s a professor?”
“Yes,” David replied. “I was also shocked when I found the information, but it’s true.”
He hesitated for a moment before continuing. “Regarding Miss Aurora Beaumont, I’ve also checked some information on that.”
“Speak,” said Ronan.
“It seems that the incident isn’t related to Miss Isla Beaumont. It was spread by the Ellsworth family. They somehow learned that Miss Aurora Beaumont helped you and assumed that Aurora looked down on them. So, they bribed reporters to damage Miss Aurora Beaumont’s reputation,” David explained.
Ronan froze.
So, this matter had nothing to do with Isla?
Earlier, he had blamed Isla entirely, thinking she had used him because of Aurora.
Now it seemed he had misunderstood her.
Ronan took a deep breath, massaging his brow in frustration as the rain drummed on outside. He didn’t even know if she was still downstairs.
David added some details about Isla’s struggles and being undervalued.
Ronan cut him off. “Enough. I don’t want to know more.”
Ronan ended the call, grabbed an umbrella, and stepped outside.
The sky had already darkened. Though it wasn’t even six o’clock, the rain cast everything in a gloomy shadow.
